AMAZING what Will was able to accomplish at his old house by spoonfeeding EqualizORR! I just ordered my first bag of EqualizORR and GrowORR. The results of my soil test told me that I only need Potassium in my front yard, and I need Potassium and Phosphorus in my back yard. I hope to have similar results with using these on a spoonfeeding program. Looking forward to seeing what Will accomplishes at his new house!

Happy Easter! I plan on buying some sod patches. I had Poa Triv pop up in about 20 places in the past few weeks. Bummed because I planted some elite varieties of KBG, but it seems the seed was contaminated with poa triv.

Awesome video! My wife and I are the same scenario as Will was when the video was posted. Though one question that I have is, how do I tell if the sod is being over watered? The sod was laid in October of 2022 so this is its first summer. I’m in eastern SD so I suspect that I have cool season grass (but haven’t been able to get an answer as to what kinds) and the landscaping company that installed it set the irrigation system to water for 35 minutes per zone (4 zones in total), 3 times a day. I’ve noticed that on a few of the seams and in the pet spots, that the dead grass almost looks like moss is growing in it? I suspect that the grass is completely dead, so I don’t think the green color is the grass coming back. I apologize if any of that hard to follow.

Great video! We just bought a new house north of Des Moines and this year will be the first that I’m working with sod. With our house, the builder said they will do lawn maintenance once in the first year of ownership. The grading is very poor, especially around downspouts where the large areas of the ground (~3’ x 3’) have sunken a few inches. The builders recommended that we wait to have them come out and fix the grading sometime in the summer to let the grading and sod settle. Do you agree with that, or should I have them come out sooner? Thanks!
@ryanknorrlawncare5 ай бұрын
If they're only going to do it once I would probably wait until after spring so it has had enough time to settle. Fall will be the best time for any lawn fixes anyway.

Winter was hard on the edges of my yard, especially where a snowplow took out a gouge. Sod is not an option for my repairs, because I can't find a mix of bluegrass and perennial rye. Do you ever pre germinate seed? Snow is forecast in Chicago for tonight, and 80 degrees on Saturday, so seeding is on a tight window to repair the lawn.
@wkm1222 жыл бұрын
I haven’t pre germinated, but it can’t hurt to put seed down too early. Think about the plant’s natural life cycle, this seeds are out all year long. Just make sure your seed is covered so the birds don’t take it! In upstate NY I put some seed down in early March and it’s just starting to germinate. We’ve been below freezing a few times but the grass is still doing fine, it’s pretty cold tolerant.

@@wkm122 thanks, our soil temperature just hit 40 degrees. I put two cups of seed in a cheesecloth, submerged in a 5 gallon bucket of water. I change the water daily, and started mixing starter fertilizer in the water yesterday. We are forecast to hit 70 this weekend. I'll sow the seed on Friday. I got this tip from the son of a friend, who is the groundskeeper for the White Sox. They keep sod around they grow themselves for repairs to the field, using this technique. I figure it is worth a try. Thanks for your comment

Do you recommend doing a lawn renovation to existing grass or just tilling the whole yard in prep for installation of new sod?
@LongNguyen-jo8qt3 ай бұрын
My perennial ryegrass sod is 4 weeks old. Do you recommend to put down fertilizer now? I am thinking about lesco 18-24-12 or a balanced fertilizer. If I put down fertilizer, should I do a lighter dose?

When you get a new build house, do you have the option to seed or it is always going to get sod from the builder?
@licia9marie2 жыл бұрын
We asked that, sod was included / mandated in the covenants, also they weren’t going to cut $’s off the home price, so we let them put the sod. So I would say it depends on where you are building

Would it be too late in Iowa to roll the sod at this point? Laid late last fall and would like to tighten up the seems and make it less bumpy, but don’t want to damage the sod if it’s too late in the spring already.

When can PGR be applied to newly sodded lawns? I planted celebration 4 weeks ago and used slow release fertilizer along with RGS. It’s been cut twice now with a light weight mower. I’m just curious if PGR can be used within 3 months, 6 months or after a year or full growing season like pre emergents?

Hi Ryan! Love the channel. Any tips on keeping the edges (against patio and sidewalk cement) from drying out? Obviously more water would help but it’s tough to maintain and keep the water even across the lawn (too wet versus dried out). One idea I had is to cut it back a little and put some compost along the edges to hold water. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
@ryanknorrlawncare2 жыл бұрын
I hand water the edges in very hot weather and don't do edging if the roots are exposed above the concrete

add in some peat moss around the edges - it holds water a long time

Great videos, Ryan! I had sod put down in late November 2020, so about a year and a half, and have not treated it at all. I've noticed a lot of spots where it's not growing this year. I am going to do a soil test, and hopefully get my results in the next couple weeks. I live in Massachusetts. Am I too late in the process to start fertilization come early June? Or should I give up hope and just plan for the fall?

I’m having a new build that will be completed in August/September. I plan on having sod put down instead of planting seed. What grass type would you recommend in Massachusetts? The grass will be primarily in the sun. I do have two dogs. I was thinking perennial rye.
@ryanknorrlawncare2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the maintenance you are wanting to do on it and height of cut.
@Tlynnjr11292 жыл бұрын
@@ryanknorrlawncare I don’t mind the upkeep and plan on being on a strict schedule with the grass. So maintenance isn’t really an issue. Height, I do like the low cut look and shorter grass is easier to spot/clean up dog waste. My biggest concern is the weather and how it’ll look/perform peak summer. I will have irrigation so water won’t be an issue.
@ryanknorrlawncare2 жыл бұрын
@@Tlynnjr1129 Should be doable. There can be a few fungus issues here and there but no grass is really immune to that

What can I do to get rid of Poa Annua ? I have a 40 year old lawn , anything to kill it ?
@danwilliamson14362 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard only preventive in the fall can fight poa annua. Other than roundup.
@johnfetter32522 жыл бұрын
A fall application of prodiamine, dithiopyr, or simizine pre emergent will prevent the vast majority of poa annua. Negate or Certainty (post emergent) will kill poa annua in established lawns. But I would not use pre emergent in a new lawn less than a year old.
