Great tip. Our snow is melting before the weekend hunt. What would have been an easy drag is now going to be much harder without snow. May try this.

This is good for carrying it out but a gamechanger for small trails. Too small to fit a 4x4 but dirtbikes work. Sling the deer on the back and ride home

This might be a dumb question, but... don't you worry walking around with a deer on your back another hunter will think you're a deer?

I was thinking maybe covering it with what ever orange object you have, orange vest or hat, or covering up the head so people don't see the antlers.

Since you would be taking your deer right away wouldnt it stiffen up into that position? How would you hang it after that? In quarters?

+Mad Lion If you down a deer in the wild and dress it out, it wouldn't be stiff until hours depending on how cold it is. But I grew up in Michigan and never had a deer go stiff carrying it out. This one was stiff because it was hanging over night. Even if it was stiff you could still hang the deer. No need to quarter it up until some blood drains from the meat or you'll have a mess.

I have boned deer out in the woods where I killed it and put the meat in ziplok bags. Put it in my pack and carried it out. The bones are pretty heavy and I dont want to carry them.

waste of good meat, the best meat is inside the bones and you can toss them into the soup and give em to your dog for proper cleaning. You can bleach the skull and hang it up on your wall as a trophy. Sounds to me like your one of those city slickers that just shoot the animal and pay a mule to bring it out of the woods. Send the good bits to a salvage company for processing.
