This is an incredible tip. Speed control is a crucial adjustment. I rarely see my balls roll out but just as in this video, I regularly will not get it to come back soon enough and the first adjustment I make is to slow down and give it more time to read the lane. You can make several adjustments but I always start with the easiest adjusment.
@markwukoman68479 ай бұрын
Entry angle, oil pattern changing, change balls, moving on the approach, speed entering the pocket, is your speed being optimized with your Rev rate. Bla, Bla. The key to being a good player is being able to read what the lane is giving you. You personally. How can I play this condition that will play to my A game. Toughest thing to do. Good luck on your quest to carry that nasty 10 pin! 2:54
@jeffnewman82619 ай бұрын
I've had a lot of luck with standing a few inches backward, in this case, on the approach to give the ball more room to hook. If I'm leaving 4 pins or 7 pins as a righthander, I'll move a little forward on the approach.
@RandyIhrke9 ай бұрын
The other thing about a ball rolling out is the ball looks like it is backing up before hitting the pocket due to it just rolling forward.

I might be wrong, but I have been bowling since 1979 and I believe that 16 pound balls pick up the 10 pin slightly more often than lighter balls. They maybe leave 1 less per game. That is why I continue to throw 16 pounds at age 67 while being only 160 pounds. But I view 10 pins as a form of bowling success. If I don't strike then I want to leave a 10 pin and nothing else.
@AverageBowler9 ай бұрын
I am 100% an amateur, but just from research and watching pros like JR and others, and the way I look at it is that almost every pro has transitioned to away from 16 pound balls. Players like EJ Tackett and from what I heard 70% of pros throw 15 pounds. So don't you think that if there was a chance a 16 pound ball would allow them to strike more they wouldn't have changed?
@drwisdom19 ай бұрын
@@AverageBowler They are pros with loads of revs and 18+ mph balls. They don't need 16 pounds like a much weaker old man who did get 26/36 strikes and left 5 ten pins last night. So five of my shots were not strikes or ten pins.
@AverageBowler9 ай бұрын
I'm just commenting on your comment where you said "I believe 16 pound balls pick up the 10 pin slightly more often than lighter balls". Whatever works for you is fine, but in curious if you actually used a 15 pound ball for a full season and the same ball as a 16 pound and actually compared the results of both. Or if you're just basing it off of opinion with no supporting evidence
@drwisdom19 ай бұрын
@@AverageBowler I have only had two 15 pound balls in 45 years, and it has been 20 years. The only difference I noticed was I left a bunch of 10 pins, so I didn't throw them much. I think 16 pounds helps deflect off the right wall getting the ten. But I am a medium rev player that likes speed.
@xouijit779 ай бұрын
I believe 98% of PWBA professionals would disagree with this theory and analysis. Most throw with fewer revs and less speed than pro men. Some throw 14 pound balls but will still carry corner pins. It's more an understanding of entry angles and pin deck exit and how to get your ball to roll correctly.

I do not throw a fast ball, but I find that when I try to change speeds I become inconsistent. So I typically either move on the approach or try changing balls. That said, I have better success slowing my ball speed down versus increasing it.
@addictedTobowling9 ай бұрын
I’m that guy that! I can’t get the big games because i leave so many 10 pins and think i should go to a ball that goes down lane and hooks. I’ll try the slowing down next time.
@joehoenig75969 ай бұрын
Could you please clarify how we can visually differentiate between a ball that is rolling out and leaving a corner pin, versus one that is not slowing down enough and also leaves a corner pin? Also, I missed your brief urethane comment in this vid, so when using urethane, which we know hooks early (compared to reactive resin), would a urethane ball be more prone to rollout than resin? Would a urethane ball only not slow down enough on longer patterns, or if that ball runs into its own carrydown? Last, does slowing ball speed help with a urethane ball as well? Could doing so lessen the impact of its own carrydown? Thank you
@wingracer16149 ай бұрын
rolling out means the ball is only rolling forward, it no longer has any sideways rotation on it so it stops hooking and just rolls though the pins. This can be common when throwing big asym solids like a Gem and miss right. It might very well hit the dry outside boards and hook back to the pocket but it used all its energy doing so after that big hook, it just rolls straight into the pocket and this will often leave 10 pins or even 7 pins, sometimes even 5 pins if it hits a little light
@JMetal989 ай бұрын
@@wingracer1614 totally with you on the asym solids doing this. Now and then i miss a bit right and it basically ends up rolling forward for what seems like a while. Whats funny tho is i get a fair amount of strikes when it happens lol.
@JMetal989 ай бұрын
Not sure if i explained that right but it seems hit some real dry, makes a quick turn, then appears to roll generally forward toward the pocket.

Good information but you need to reposition the camera or get out of the way so that we can see the results of the ball and pins
@millsdjr8 ай бұрын
Cool, that helps. I was always moving right, because my brain said move right. No technical reason, just my brain said move right. So, am I to assume that leaving the 7-10 on that same type of shot is also the ball moving too far down the lane, or is that the opposite? I struggle with what I perceive are Pocket 7-10's quite a bit.
@jondoe66189 ай бұрын
Could you make a vid showing the best entry angle into the pocket? Just a simple line from the pocket to the gutter and how many feet it actually is. I always reference the cheater boards down lane. Or whatever there called. Love the content. Especially the stereotype vids 😂

Wouldn't the easiest way be to start your approach 6" to 12 " longer? Therefore you will be stopping your slide 6 to 12" short of the foul line and will be laying the ball down a little sooner on the lane? You might not have to change rotation, speed, starting position, or lay down board at all.

Heads up. I just watched the “Perception vs Reality” show and they were rebutting to your video about “Layouts Don’t Matter” this will be an ongoing debate topic until someone proves the information correctly. What’s funny to see on the “Throwbot” videos is that they gave each “bowler” the same exact PAP. Example on the Conspiracy HK22 each bowler created has a 4.5” x 0.5” PAP. Might want to make another video to rebuttal back.

Nada, like you said before JR, moving more forward or backward won't do much because our body will compensate and end at the same spot we normally release the ball. Slow your feet and approach to allow the ball to read more and roll sooner, thus correcting the ten pin problem. At least until another problem comes up.
