Would you advise a total beginner at guitar building to either start from scratch with guidance from videos like yours and books, or buy a cheap guitar and make changes to It? Like change the fretboard wood, change hardware, shape the neck, add a figured top, etc? Thanks for all the awesome entertainment and tutorials!

Ben, it would be cool if I get an answer. I have Gibson Les Paul's. The 1993 I have had a break a while back. I often wondered if adding a Volute to it would be the best thing to do. I mean not to cover the crack, but to insure it's continue to standup against time & playing. Besides, I'm a sucker for Gibson Les Paul's & I Really Do Dig Red so.... I get tired of listening to luthiers, or guitarists with guitars that once it's been broken, they've repaired the neck, followed by, they don't plan on keeping it, all the while claiming the neck is so strong now, ''It Will Never Break'', always added with, ''However, I don't want this Vintage Les Paul Standard anymore.'' I'm into Tele's now, Yep, that's the ticket...

I recently posted a rant in the comments about the lack of "actual building" in your recent videos. And now I'm gonna say, I'd want more like this one. Mini-torials, Long-torials, full builds... Just... just slaughter more wood on camera, I guess. :D

Is there someone that knows what pots and resistance to use in a 1 humbucker 1 single coil configuration so that both the pickups sound good? On internet I can't find a good scheme, idk
@timbeaton50456 жыл бұрын
Shitty Covers... depends on what you mean "sounds good"! Sorry....! OK, the usual advice, as to values to use, is; 250K for single coils, and 500K for humbuckers. The reasoning is because in MOST guitars, the vol/tone pots are passive, so they react accordingly with the impedance of the pickups. So 250K loads the single coils more, so the top end frequencies are "tamed", to ward off over-brightness, whereas with humbuckers you use higher resistance values, so as to NOT lose to much high frequency output. My guess would be use the 500K pot values, which will work best for the humbuckers, and use the tone pot to tame the high end of the single coil. This of course all depends on which pickups you use, and hotter wound single coils would probably be more dark, compared to standard F****r single coils. you could always add a small capacitor that is always connected to shunt a small bit of high frequencies to ground on just the single coil. But remember that in a passive circuit, when you select both pickups, then that treble "bleed" will then be operating on both pickups. I would still go for 500K for both, and adjust the tone knob accordingly. It will be a compromise whichever pick-up is selected. Unless of course you had an active buffer circuit in the guitar, then that can eliminate this issue altogether. Hope that helps. Anybody else have a better idea?
