We couldn't afford a rod when we were kids and always handlined. We loved catching more fish than the guys with rods! 😊. I would have liked a cuban yoyo--we made our own gear and had to lay the line out on the ground before casting. Nice to see this! We made our own weights too from scrap lead. We had a good design for surf fishing in the rocks. We cast a pyramid weight with four pieces of wire sticking out. This ensured that the weight couldnt fall into a hole small enough to jam the weight. If it fell into a bigger hole-- just give it a pull and the wire legs would bend back and out it would come!

Good Demo, Fish don't care about fancy rods n reels just the bait on your hook....And it is a different fishing experience direct from your hand down the line to the fish. A cheap & fun way to fish....Thanks for the video...

Your videos have been extremely helpful in helping me figure out how to use these hand reels. Everyone in my community fishes, but the only hand reelers I've found are older gents using spools of wire off the sides of their boats on Lake Huron

Hint : if peeling line onto the floor, let fall the curls into your hand, and turn the pile arround, so the curl on the casting end is the very top one. That way you don't get tangles. Same for picking up the line onto the reel: never start to reel up a pile of line off the floor, you would be pulling on the lowest most curl of the pile and get a birdsnest. Cast again first and always reel in stretched line !

@@BlackWarriorLures In practice, one would prefer to cast from the yoyo, of course. Only if one has to use both hands on the line, and it ends up on the floor, just cast from the floor, as now the casting end is on top anyway. And even when packing, never start reeling the line onto the yoyo when it's like this. Lob the sinker out, and reel back the stretched line

I've seen kids hook themselves when I was a kid camping and fishing and trust me your not gonna die from a hook in the finger or in the neck it won't be fun but you'll still live to do it again

I guess it's a good thing I hate casting. Almost all my fishing is drift fishing or trolling where no casting is involved. I've seen plenty of people hook themselves with rod and reel as well. Fishing is an inherently dangerous sport. The faint of heart need not get involved.

Try using the Mexican beercan spinning rig. A challenge when using artificial lures!

Oh yeah the 6 inch casters work great for bass fishing and boy are they fun just rig swivel then 2 ft of leader with bullet weight bass hook and worm hooked weedless and cast and reel they hit it.

I got a case of 10" Hd fiberglass Handcasters and a case of 10" Hd in Abs they hold 700 yards of 80 lb gorilla braid and we catch bullshark and black tip casting from the beach i have casted from goal post to goal post at LSU

Nice. LSU? Over here in Tuscaloosa we never look forward to playing LSU because you know it's going to be a knock-down-slug-out fight to the finish. Hmm, never used the Gorilla braid, need to try it. Yeah, I've seen so many people using handlines just like you say, but you don't see much information online about it even though it's the most common fishing method through out the world.

Newbie in this hobby... I found me to what i thought was a cuban yoyo with a reeling mechanism... Caught plenty with it it but the only problem is the casting... Bought that gadget in a fishing store in saudi arabia... Only to find out that in a video on youtube that it was a actually a kite reel... I modified the darn thing so i can cast it like on this video and reel it like a typical reeling device... Never seen anyone have done this... Maybe you can develop a device like this who is into cuban yoyo but has a reeling mechanism...

If you use braid you have to be really careful. It can easily cut a finger off even with gloves on!

Man, I just put on a bunch of 20 lbs mono, and it's much better: longer casting distances and much more forgiving on the hands. Mono wins again, lol.

@@BlackWarriorLures Monofilament stretches- that's going to act like an inline shock absorber. It's also a good bit thicker than a similar lb test braid.
