Very clear resin. Better results can be obtained with three pours. One with no specimen in it to act as a base, let it set. A second to anchor the specimen roughly half way with it's legs embedded, let it set and a final encompassing layer. This ensures the specimen doesn't move or float as well as making sure it's positioned in the centre of the block and completely encompassed.

I've done small bugs but only one large one, a Stag Beetle. When filling the body I used a disposable plastic pipette with a bulb on the end. Pouring was getting messy & I found it easier to fill the whole body using the pipette. :D

your comment scared me for some reason...
@CB-jv6cj8 жыл бұрын
+Karasutengu haha why that, beetles aren't scary. It is worse to have dead insects. Most people don't even know where there dead insects come from that they use for jewelry. At least I know that mine don't die special for this purpose. They die due to old age.
@adeelsk48 жыл бұрын
nah just the single-mindedness needed for that whole train of though, gives me a hint of the personality behind it. maybe thats what scared me, i dunnow really :D but yeah i do agree about the insects. i dont want anything killed just for decoration purposes.
@CB-jv6cj8 жыл бұрын
+Karasutengu Its just that people wouldn't kill a little kitten just to make a pretty decoration out of so why would they kill a beautiful insect to make jewelry out of. A lot of people don't care about killing an innocent creature, I can't stand that. I am super scared of spiders, but that doesn't mean I would kill them. Lot's of people don't do research into where their dead specimens come from.
@adeelsk48 жыл бұрын
Cynthia Bernardy totally agree with ya! anytime i see one of my mates try to kill a bug because its in their living room or whatever i get mad, caz we built our houses on top of theirs, not the other way around. and my gf is terrified of spiders, so i am the designated spider catcher and transporter (ten meters away from the door at least caz otherwise they will come back :D ) anyway have a good one :)

I understand that it's very foolish to expose body tissues, e.g. skin, to uncured epoxy. Allergic reactions, from mild to very severe, can occur on the first or any further exposure. Thereafter, you are permanently, forever, sensitized, and that the allergic reactions become worse.

Did you prep the bug with sealer before covering it with resin? I know flowers "cook" with the heat of the resin if they're not sealed, is it the same for bugs?
@alamouldclearsiliconemolds92738 жыл бұрын
It wasn't necessary to seal it with resin, important was to fill up the bug with resin. The flowers or insects will be burned out in resin only if you do a very deep casting 200 grams resin and mire, otherwise they'll be fine!

Faithful B.G. anerobic bacteria don't need oxygen to live and can be really nasty, like botulism for example. I would really look into how to do it properly rather than go for trial and error. Otherwise you could have your casts explode spraying stinky and possibly dangerous liquid around the room.

Can I do this with a fish? Same concept But I am thinking of I pour the resin half way. Lay the whole fish, without doing anything to it, then cover the rest of the fish totally in resin in a thick layer. Now the fish will be preserved in a hard plastic, Would it still rot. Or would this work ?
@RustyShakleford15 жыл бұрын
Brad Petrella brad I have the same idea to use as a fishing lure. I have not attempted it yet let me know if you any further info. The processes I have come across to reduce or eliminate rot are; To freeze the dry the specimen before encasing in resin. Or submerging the fish in 95% ethanol solution to replace the water in the fish. Before resin As well as removing the stomach and organs to stop them from decomposing.
