Great info! Lots of guys only talk about setting the tension and brakes....which is all valid of course, but with light lures even with the tension and brakes tight, you will still get backlash unless you cast correctly.

I like a roll cast from the side for light lures. I have a medium fast baitcaster setup specifically for light lures,weightless baits, and other finesse stuff like shaky head,mojo rig,and even dropshots. I have 14lbs sea guard invisX and it works great for anything 1/8 ounce or above. It’s like a bfs but a little heavier

Cool!! Appreciate your reply. For the record, your channel was the very first channel I subbed to when I started searching for fishing videos several years ago. Needless to say…with no pun intended, I’m hooked!! 😂
I have a 7 foot Quantum smoke rod with micro line guides medium heavy. 1/4 to 3/4 baits. 2 Quantum smoke S3 baitcaster with 7.3, with Sufix siege mono 10lbs, the other one with 14lbs. It cast smoothly. When I cast over hand I get a bird nests everytime. I quit using a overhead cast. Now I cast sidearm and I get more distance with softbaits and hardbaits
@TackleJunky81 Жыл бұрын
When I first started bass fishing it was easier for me to side arm cast as well. Took me a bit to get my release right over hand.
@bobjohnston5527 Жыл бұрын
@TackleJunky81 I started fishing when I was 9 back in the seventy. I used a side arm cast with my spinning combo. 4 years ago I bought my first baitcaster, its lighter than my spinning combo. Have a great day

Great video & info!!!! Thanks for sharing those tips. Question: When throwing overhead my cast seems to sail high into the sky, any tips what I can do to improve and not have my lures catch trees instead of fish? lol Finally go out but got the Big "W". Conditions were not great very windy and the lake was really choppy. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!

So as a bank fisherman I'm really looking for equipment that will give me the most distance, should I be considering buying bfs equipment if I want maximum distance and if not do you have recommendations for equipment with long distance capability?
@TackleJunky813 ай бұрын
You can go BFS, but that will limit you to what you can throw. The SLX does a pretty good job of tossing lighter lures and the norm as well.

Great Video my Friend thank you. I think “BFS” is all just marketing to sell more Baitcasting Reels and it’s so much easier to just use a spinning Reel for a 1/8 or 1/16 ounce lure and a massive Headache with a Baitcasting Reel and I throw a lot of light stuff for the River and it just takes Medium or Medium Light stick light line and a decent Reel. I toss a Pad Crasher Jr all day at 30 yards plus accurately and easily. I mean I love my LFS I got new for 55 bucks but 300 bucks for a Lews “BFS” Reel Lol come on. If I had the Bread I’d buy a Zillion or a Shimano DC Reel or just a Pro Qualifier

That's "American" BFS style. if you buy BFS reel and a short Ultralight rod ( medium light or even light is not BFS imo) you can cast 1/8 and under lures way more effectively than a spinning reel doing it Japans BFS way. at least when it comes to small rivers/creeks. I got into BFS about year and half before BFS reels came to America... long story short we clearly got lost in translation as nearly everyone throws 1/4oz and up. yet when in Japan its nearly all 1/8oz and below. BFS Reels aren't just marketing at all... just we market them that way here for some reason.

I still use baitcasting and spinning equipment that I bought in the late 1970s and early eighties. Some laugh at my original Daiwa millionaires and ambassadeur 5500c reels with no magnetic cast controls. They still work great so I will continue to use them.
