Home depot sells them.. I work at home depot and we get alot of them in every day. seems people must have the same idea as you to relocate lil critters like that.. just becareful cause sometimes people's cats and stray / loose dogs might get stuck too.

+The Eye Opener For The Blind Are you kidding me? These animals are the WORST! They can destroy a house in no time. Their spoor (that's poo for city folks) has a parasite that causes Spiro-plasmosiis....which destroys your lungs. They are incredibly destructive to property as well....Catch em, take waay out into the woods and let them go. Don't need to kill them, but they need to taken at least a couple of miles away or they may find their way back....

BP roundworm is not in every raccoons feces. There are less than 30 cases of human infection EVER in history. Unless you eat feces it's extremely hard to contract ;) Every dewormer on shelf kills it, oh and the common puppy roundworm? It blinds 500 kids a year - but I wouldn't recommend driving all your neighbors dogs far away! Raccoons are in our neighborhoods for reasons - reasons that rodents will take over unless we reduce attractants, or that several more raccoons will come along for so removing them is a waste of time & money (unless you're in it for the money).

I bought a cage at Home Depot for around $75. I had to install a mesh around the cage because the racoons kept stealing my marshmallows from the sides using their long fingers. I also anchored the cage with two rebars so they wouldn't move it and activate the trap release from the outside. I caught 4 from a family of 5 that kept using my pool and pooping in it! It's a good idea to install a camera with night vision to study their behavior and see exactly how they approach the cage and where they come into your yard. They can climb a 4X4 like nothing or they can walk across a cedar fence like if it were a sidewalk. They use their long fingers wisely. Once I studied them, I caught them in the exact same place using the exact same method. Number 5 never came back and I have seen him walking across the front of my house through my security cameras!

I have that trap or one similar but the raccoon was so mad, and kept biting on the wires, the catch thing that keeps the plate up and the door open won't work. I also think the trap wires are so large, it's dangerous getting near the trap because the raccoon can reach out. Why not a thick mesh versus the wires? And then an easier way to open the door for release after he's inside and still hissing! Just learning about traps but I still think there's improvement needed on the design!

A great trap. I have caught 8 racoons in the last 12 days this summer; opposums , a skunk, and more coons in prior years. Two to three miles is not far enough a distance to relocate them for good. The permitted drop off area needs to be further than 5 miles. I have been told. I had to let one go one friday morning because I had to get a friend to her doctor's location 45 miles away and didn't want the coon to have to stay in the cage till I got back several hours later. Especially after having to spent most of the prior night in the cage. After that coon was caught and let go off my porch, the coons started tripping the trap and then reaching through the squares in the wires to eat the cat food from the outside of the cage trap. I have been taking the coons (with permission) to a wildlife preserve 13 miles away and one I took to a state park, with permission.

Four things: one, they will tear up your grass once trapped, so if you can, put the trap on concrete. Two, a can of sardines works great. Leave a trail of sardines going into the trap. Make sure you put a heavy mat under the trap if being used on a deck, they will tear your deck up. Same thing in your car while transporting. I didn’t take mine very far, but it was such a nice spot, hope they don’t come back. Caught 6 raccoons in 6 days. How long does it usually take before they come back? I’ve taken stray cats not far and they never came back, cats are way smarter. Saw a cat inside the trap eating the food and avoiding the trigger plate.

I have the old style home made traps. I caught 3 young raccoons in the same trap. The three followed each other into the trap one behind the other until the door shut. When I first approached the trap I thought that I trapped the biggest coon ever. Then I saw 2 eyes looking at me then 4 eyes then 6 eyes .

what u didnt show is trying to pick up the cage and release. they can get ferocious once caged and release isnt easy.

lol @ 02:30 that second raccoon is a jerk. His buddy is trapped and he just casually eats up the remaining food

I used fish for this trap, and it worked the first day. But I have no idea what to do with it now, and it's probably dead.

so....I have a family of 5 racoons (mom and kids) that visit about once every two weeks and aren't looking for trash, but rather burrow my lawn for grubs and worms and hang out in my tree, then all 5 take a dump in one spot! If I trap one, will the remaining ones return?
@BobSell10 жыл бұрын
Oh yea! They'll be back!

I'm convinced a 2nd trap would have got him as well. He did come back and I trapped him the very next night! Stupid or short memory?

And my mom says it can't trap raccoons. this video proves otherwise

I used this type trap - the raccoon literally tore it apart - I then built home made trap with old bar-be-que grills- works great but is heavy (esp with a raccoon inside)

Bait? If you want to catch raccoons, but NOT the neighbor's cat - use marshmallows!

All jokes aside theres this raccoon in our neighborhood and it doesnt seem to be afraid of people.. He will walk across the gate or street even if we are outside gathered around a fire pit

Nice! I had one fall in my trash can outside I should of closed it and moved it somewhere far way from my house but I was stupid and kick the trash can over and he went right back under my deck

i bought a trap for wild cats and stray dogs to keep them away from my rabbits and its way too big. I can't figure out how to set it either. We don't have racoons here. I don't know what to do with it.
@BobSell6 жыл бұрын
If you bought this trap, it’s not to big for cats and dogs. You do need to learn how to set the door for a light touch. Just experiment with it.

Bob Sell Thank you. I figured it out. I am breeding rabbits and have to take a lot of them to the vet and this cage will hold quite a few rabbits for a vet trip to get neutered. I'm surprised at how heavy duty this trap actually is. We engraved our info on it and we are chaining it to the ground and covering it with camo to catch the local predators. We also get skunks. People on the other side of town get possums so I may end up lending to people to catch possums too.

Glad you got it figured out Renee. Good luck!👍

Plan on a real mess of raccoon scat around that cage. And beware of the disease carried in that scat. And please don't release a problem raccoon to just go elsewhere to be a problem for someone else. Dispose of them as humanely as possible..

what you did not mention is that a smart racoon can escape 1 of those traps given enough time. there is 1 coming to my nieghbors house which has escaped a trap like that 4 times. i was hoping your video would give some suggstions for us. all your video shows is best case trapping a wise coon would never stay in your trap unless you went out there as soon as it caught him.

Just because trap is sprung does not mean it was inside. They rattle the trap and spring it then eat the food.

I thought live catch traps were so the animals didn’t rot over night and you can get them fresh

My family will often catch and release possums and/or raccoons if we find any near our house. if the trap works then usually, in the morning, the animal is calm, not really doing anything, but one morning we found out that we caught a baby raccoon and this little guy was still going. He growled and snarlef at us and tried digging his way out. It of course didn't work, and he ended up digging a small trench around the cage
