🌴 great info, always looking to learn something, not ideal fishing weather but ya take the bad with the good , as far as for poons being in funky water I’ve seen them with fish fungus on them the water was that dirty from sewer drain off , there one tough fish 💪🏼
@uglydoglol400611 ай бұрын
In addition to this ive found fishing canals that have damns that connect to saltwater the fish seem to stay right behind the damn and not in the flowing water for some reason not sure if this is just for me but thats what ive seen happen a lo

From my experience, snook hang tight, where tarpon like to hang on the outside of the wash.

Live in central fl looking to cross a bonefish off the bucket list..would I have luck just taking a 3hr trip to Key Biscayne or would I have better luck going down further south? Thanks!

KB is your best bet.

Great video, you left out under over passes and small bridges over canals.
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
Thanks. Haha. Yeah, I briefly mentioned bridge pylons, but honestly I’m not the biggest fan of fishing bridges. Usually harder than it needs to be with a fly rod, and also usually has more fishing pressure than I’d like.
@DenisBurke-vb6vh11 ай бұрын
Agreed , rather not fly cast under them, it is kinda cool hearing them crash your gurglers but not see what is happening under the bridge, cheers. Thanks again keep them coming. @@Eric.Estrada

I haven't searched for tarpon in SC, but I know they exist. a couple buddies of mine have gotten into them. I am certain these methods will work up there too.

Eric who's fly rod box do you have on your truck for transporting your rods. Would you recommend it?
@Eric.Estrada7 ай бұрын
I'm currently running the Thule Rod Vault. I've had it since 2020 and it has been great. I am thinking about removing it, though. I want to swap out my camper shell for a truck bed pop up camper style and will have to see if it fits on there and functions properly with the pop up top.

so even if there is a spillway in the way of a canal connecting to saltwater do you think it would still have tarpon
@Eric.Estrada5 ай бұрын
100%… some of these spots in fish, they gotta cross 4 spillways to get to, and the spillways are insane change in water depth. They still somehow manage to get up and over, I’m sure it takes years and historical rainfall to allow it.
@ricardocaso562711 ай бұрын
Hello new to the channel, what weight rod/line do recommend for the size of tarpon you are targeting? Thanks
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
Welcome! I actually have a video where I go over my rod setup. I mostly use a 5wt. While most will think it’s undergunned, as long as you have a good reel, it’ll teach you how to properly fight fish.

What’s your go to fly line in the canals?
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
I am tossing Cortland's Tropic Plus Series "Tropic Compact" in a 5/6wt, or I also really like Royal Wulff's bermuda shorts triangle taper also in a 5wt. They're the only lines I have found that take take the abuse of being dragged around grass, sawgrass, rocks, gravel, etc. I also use the compact or short shooting head lines because you typically want to shoot line out, rather than try to carry a lot of line in a false cast. I like to do as few false casts as possible, allowing less possibility of hitting a street sign, pedestrian, semi truck. haha

Very cool. Are gators common in these areas? If so how do you avoid them?
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
They are, if you are in areas where people don’t frequent the gators won’t bother. In fact they’re usually scared of humans. But if it’s in an area that there’s usually a lot of people, the gators can become aggressive and try to snatch your fish. Just gotta keep your head on a swivel. You’ll notice in most of my videos when I am waterside with a fish I’m constantly looking around. Lol
@jasonsmith780911 ай бұрын
yeah we have grizzly bears out here, kinda similar but maybe more random. Cool fishing you got there!@@Eric.Estrada

Can you help me find tarpon spots in Melbourne FL? I go to spillways and openings to creeks and still haven’t ever caught one.
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
I'm not too familiar with Melbourne, but I guarantee if you find spots that have all of these signs that tarpon will be present. I was in Melbourne yesterday, it looked pretty fishy.
@aidanobuck577911 ай бұрын
@@Eric.Estrada yeah all the canals are freshwater here though. I fish at a very active spillway and I never see any tarpon dive nor have I ever even hooked on one. Then there’s just normal backwater spots but most of them you need a boat for
@fernandosoler939511 ай бұрын
Hey I have a question for you When you fishing those canal, do you prefer east or west coast of Florida Thank you
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
Both! Honestly it doesn’t matter where you are, the main difference is that every area or county controls their water differently. Getting a good understanding of how and when they start pumping water out will make a huge difference.

What fly do you like to throw for these baby tarps?
@Eric.Estrada4 ай бұрын
I have a fly tying video that shows how to tie it. It’s from a couple years ago, but that’s still the fly I use daily.
