South Florida Saltwater Fishing

Күн бұрын

In this short seminar, I go over in detail how, when and where to catch Kingfish, also known as King Mackerel. A prized catch when offshore fishing, charter fishing or sport fishing. The advice and tips in this video have been gathered through years of experience, and are shared to help you catch more fish. I go over the various techniques and show examples of fishing for these voracious carnivores, such as, trolling, planer trolling, or flat lining and bump trolling live baits, along with the best bait to use. I include advice on where to target them. I also go over when to target them, being the time of year , or the time of day.
Enjoy,
Tight lines & good vibes.

Wow excellent video! I really appreciate how in depth all your videos are compared to other channels. Its great to have more knowledge targeting Mackarel. I'm a fanatic trying to target them...but I've only caught one Spanish years ago and never had luck since. I don't have a boat or Kayak...but I hope to catch them at piers or beaches along the coast. Thanks for the advices you always give

Hi. Thanks for watching and asking a great question. With both the gotcha and the bucktail jig I use 20 lb fluorocarbon... Yes I know it's light, but the hook up ratio is phenomenal compared to the amount of times you get cut off. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care :)

Hi Heath! Great video! Very informative. One question I have is, I noticed that your boat is generally the same size as mine, what wave height is too high for you in your boat?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, thanks for watching and asking a great question. The answer is tricky though... so here goes... first, I'm infamous for going out in super rough seas, I really have to make a judgement call on the inlet conditions, inlets sink boats more than anything. I've had my 17' KeyWest out in choppy 3 - 5, I've also had it out with 8 and 9 foot swells from a west wind laying down the ocean forming large swells. regardless, it could be 1 - 2, if the inlet is unfavorable, I won't chance it. The more simple answer is my boat can handle about 5' seas. Hope that answers your question. Take care :)

Hi Heath, Good luck when you go out. The marinas are open, so fishermen that have boats docked at a marina can get out. The ramps, piers and beaches are still closed up here. It's very hard to find a place to fish. Take care and be safe, Mickey

Great video! How about techniques off a fishing pier?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. So, where I'm from, we get spanish mackerel and sometimes cero mackerel off the piers. Up northwest of me, in tampa?/clearwater area (in the Gulf of Mexico) is where kings can be caught from the piers. You have given e a great idea for a land based show, that I'll be sure to put on my "to do" list. As winter approaches, these fish start migrating up the beach, so I'll see what I can do to work towards an episode regarding that content. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

Thanks a million for watching and ask any very question. No I don't put any weights on it. I typically buy a 3/4 Oz bucktail jig and troll it in between 4 and 6 knots. And trolls very streamline and is a high fish attractant. thanks again for your support of the channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Good luck in your fishing journeys. would a penn battle 2 with a shimano terramar 8ft rod work for kings?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. First I would say in general yes, Penn Battle spinners can handle Kingfish. I have an original Penn Battle 5000 and it handles some hefty kings. It will not however, handle planer trolling, there's too much pressure put on your gear by a planer for a spinning setup to handle. But, top water trolling and flat lining, you'll be just fine. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)

why not just run the wire through the loop and back through the haywire tool? Does the tool you are using not have a release slot? Also - what size wire for these guys? I'm getting my #4 wire bit off lately, and think I might need to go heavier.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and asking a couple of great questions... The ez twist tool has a fixed side and an open slot side... First I send the wire through the loop of the hook then into the fixed side of the tool, next i fold it over to form a loop and lay it into the open slot and twist the leader. This is how I've done it for years... I'm sure there are modified versions of how to use the tool effectively, but I'm just sharing what I know of as the easiest way to utilize the tool. I use #4 - 40lb wire for kings... Cut offs are all part of it. If it's happening on a consistent basis I'd up the leader to #6 - 60lb. I like the #4 because of the stealth factor... I get lots of kinks from the bigger kings, but haven't been cut off in a long while. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care :)
@fargo007
@fargo007 3 жыл бұрын
@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Thanks for the quick and awesome reply. Subscribed. Yeah I'm going to try going up to #6. The kings are pretty big and powerful here. So what I do with the tool is go through the back of it on the moving slot side first, then through the lure, then back through the tool's front, in the fixed hole. this way when I back the tool off the wire after the twist, It just falls off the wire. If I could bother you again, what jig weights do you find most useful? I think this might be speed dependent too.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tool tip... I'll have to give it try. The jigs i use, if you're referencing the spro white bucktails range from 1/2 oz to 1 oz... Speed doesn't seem to be a factor. I troll the 1/2oz at 8 to 10 knots and it stays in the water. The gotchas come in 2 sizes that i know of... I use both the smaller and the larger, they both work the same... I do prefer the Spro jig though. Hope this answers your question. Tight lines & thanks a boat load for supporting the channel, I truly appreciate it :)
