A few things you need to make sure you have a better chance at not losing kokanee. A kokanee rod like the Akuma black on spinning or bait caster are really good.or use a rubber snubber. It also helps to run two hooks and a little bigger then what the set ups come with.

Thanks for the advice.

What is funny, is their larger counterpart the sockeye fight the best out of any salmon per size. They are real strong!

I have never got a chance to catch a sockeye yet.

@@MooMooOutdoors In Alaska they do not bite at all. To catch them it is like playing basketball. The technique is known as "flossing" and you just drag a hook with a weght above it through the water near shore of a river when they run and try to get the hook into the fishes mouth. It is pretty easy when they are running and a lot of foul hooking occurs, which you need to throw back. That is the fun of it. In some places in Alaska you can legally snag them too and a lot of Alaskans are on the rivers to get their fill. When you hook one they take off like a torpedo and a lot of them jump. They can strip a reels gears in no time flat as well as smoke one. I had a week where I used one single outfit till the reel seized and it was smoking when that happened. I caught over 100 sockeyes for the week. Either snagged them and threw those back and kept the ones I got in the mouth. Poor outfit couldn't handle it and on Friday it gave up the ghost. If you ever get to Alaska, try to get there during that regions sockeye run. It is real fun and you can get your fill of them.

Hey moo another nice vid, not sure what hooks you are using but my experience I switched years ago to gamaku split shot/drop shot hooks size 4. I usually run two hooks. My catch rate improved big time….
@MooMooOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bart. Make sense. I was using the hooks that came with the lure. I did noticed that the barb in the hook is very small.

Was the ramp at the dam not open? Last year it was rough with boat traffic there and the walk was crazy to park trailer
@MooMooOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It was open. I personally like this ramp better because it's seems less crowded.
@josezepeda50872 жыл бұрын
Last year that ramp was the only one open. I guess it makes sense if it's not crowded I would keep going there. The water was lower last year and it forced everyone to go to you're spot.

Search for a video by Spilt Milt about using drop shot hooks for kokanee. He says you'll lose fewer fish on them.
