Very informative. I was really impressed with the Georgia College Alumni shirt. I graduated from there myself.

Question for you. How important is color choice when you can not use with minnows. Where I live, live minnows are not allowed, so it's just up to your lure. Any stand out colors ? Thanks for the vids, keep them coming !

Color is really important with crappie. We often find where one color works a lot better than another but it's not a setfast rule. We usually have some contrasty colors like black and chartreuse or red and chartreuse and then more natural colors like monkey milk, or blue and silver. We basically will carry a handful of colors and cycle through them as we fish until we get bites. A lot of times we look at the water. If its dirty we start with something more stand out like chartreuse. If its clear we might start with something more natural like shad. I just watched a video where they said color doesn't really matter are all, and he just had a 150+ fish day. Guess it just depends lol
@Wired2Fish5 жыл бұрын
Crappies can be very color-specific, much more than a lot of gamefish. Some days there doesn't appear to be a preference, others and it can be night and day.

I heard you guys say that this was a 3 acre pond..I was reading that pond or lake owners shouldn't stock crappie in a pond or lake under 30 acres...those seem to be some decent size crappie in that small pond though they don't seem to be stunted...so what is the key to maintaining a healthy crappie population in a small pond or lake? And will other species such as bass and bream suffer from crappie being in small ponds? My guess is you will probably need a good population of shiners for the crappie to feed on and a good pop of smaller bass to eat those small young crappie that's just my take..

I am sorry but I wan the legal size of Crappie in all states to be 12 inch, 9 inch fish should be released along with the 10 and 11.
@punk123149 жыл бұрын
Gary Finger You want?
@big1finger9 жыл бұрын
Yes I want, I have contacted the state and have had much dialogue with them about changing the legal limit of Crappie. Hell there is more meat on a 12 " crappie than a 9 inch. Are you one who gets a limit and leaves and returns to take another limit? The states need more wardens to enforce the rules and get rid of those who ignore the rules.
@punk123149 жыл бұрын
Gary Finger I honestly don't keep any fish I catch at all. I support your reasoning.
@RyanMcIntyre9 жыл бұрын
Gary Finger What you want and what is best for lakes and the species are obviously two different things. I realize you have a compassion for the game, but lots of people far smarter than you or I have determined the legal limits based on many factors, the least of which is how much meat is on a fish. Typically, keeping peak numbers within a range that doesn't affect the more important game fish in a particular lake, the overall health and the individual health of lakes and fish respectively, the breeding habits, attrition rates, and food supply all are used as factors to determine how much to cull from a source. The numbers decided upon aren't just pulled from a hat. If 9" is the limit, there's obviously a reason having too many 9-12" Crappie in a lake is poor management. You would have to provide significant data proving that adding 3" to the limit is a healthier decision, not just one that feels better to you. Again, it has to do with needing to cull fish from a supply or they'll take over, which is not healthy for the entire system. We're not running out of crappie anytime soon, they're prolific breeders. Besides, how many 12" crappie are you catching? I'd like to take SOMETHING home at the end of the day.
@williambutler49659 жыл бұрын
+Ryan McIntyre You're exactly right on crappie being prolific breeders. When the ecosystem of whatever body of water you're fishing Is at optimal crappie environment, the fish do more than strive; they dominate. The amount of minnows, small bass, and small bluegill they feed on can be overwhelming to the ecosystem. Crappie aren't especially the choice of food for bass either. I know of a few ponds that I can't catch anything but bluegill and crappie in because they've taken over the pond. Small bass don't stand a chance.
