So it's based on region and not on language? In bulbapedia it is stated that "The Masuda method involves breeding two Pokémon created in games of different languages."

Short Answer: If a Pokemon you obtain has a 'region code' on their Summary page (ENG, JPN, FRA, KOR, etc); and that Pokemon does not match the other breed-partner; you'll qualify for Masuda Method Odds. Ex: [ENG + ENG = Normal Odds] [JPN + JPN = Normal Odds] [JPN + ENG = Boosted Odds] Long Answer: From my research, I believe it's based on the Switch's Region since your Switch's system settings determine a lot of other factors in-game as well (weather, time of day, seeding). And I believe this is also the logic they used in the 3DS games. If you had a Japanese-region 3DS, that you'd get [JPN] Pokemon even if you played the game in English. This is why you can see [JPN] Pokemon that have their English names when traded. I will say, I don't own a regional-Switch but it seems to be the only consistency between all the situations I've researched. Terminology even between larger websites is very inconsistent though. On Bulbapedia, the full definition they use refers to "...language of origin..."; but Serebii uses the term "...different nationality...". I'm unsure if Pokemon Company has ever made a fully-definitive definition outside of interview with Masuda himself. I can understand where the confusion comes from since these are normally our major outlets for Pokemon news. Even had me double checking today! Hope that helps! JP

Nope, Ditto just needs to be from a region different than yours. So if you in ENG, JPN/ GER/ SPA, etc will work. Happy Hunting!

Double confirming as @SomeRando already did. Shiny parent doesn’t influence shiny rate. I believe that was a thing back in Gen2 on Gameboy Color, but I’m not positive.
