Great and informative video, explaining why hardi-plank re-painting needs to be caulked (fractured seams in the existing caulking), and how to do it right! Thanks for the video!

No problem! Thanks for watching I have an awesome video coming out this Friday or Saturday and I’m testing 10 of the most popular caulkings on the market. Hope you check it out 🤘😎🤘

Is there an updated video showing the caulk once it's painted? I am preparing to do mine, and i would like to see what the final result of this method looks like

OSI Quad Max may be better than Loxon for this application. OSI partnered with James Hardie to provide color match the ColorPlus prefinished siding. OSI Quad Max may also be easier to source.

I found the Loxon to be stretchy -er than QM and return to its original look after being stretched out. QM and optimuma acting identical and almost having zero stretch. I would be interested in a 10 year challenge between the both to see if there is any advantage to having some stretch or if there is something to the firmness of QM. Loxon is available at every Sherwin Williams on the planet so not sure if QM is more available but if your not a painter the QM is more available at your building supply chains. Thanks for the comment and watching the video! 💪😎

I have this exact problem. How do you match the paint color without repainting everything? Our house was painted a few years ago and the caulking they used cracked like every other one I’ve used. I caulked again and used a brush to repaint the caulking. Well of course it didn’t match. Called the painter back out, and he painted about half the house to get it to match. Can I thin out the paint a little and see if it matches better? How can I get it to look the same? Thanks

Unfortunately touching up will always be problematic. Spraying, brushing and rolling will all look slightly different because of the texture they leave once dry. Plus the darker the color the quicker the color will fade slightly in the sun. If you want it perfect you will have to paint it corner to corner unless it’s flat paint and not faded from sun

I’m gonna buy this and try to thin the paint slightly and see if it will match. Appreciate your input and help. Thanks

There is colour match caulking But it is a little different You shouldn’t caulk butt joints

Soapy water will help smooth the poly caulk without sticking to your fingers ,esp smoothing the hard edge

you should be using a piece of tin or base sheet strip behind the hardie joint and you wouldnt have the calk joint . the calk dont last. the calk is supposed to be butyl calk also as per spec.. to be clear im certified for hardie panel and azack install.and hardie panel has to be stud nailed .

You are correct. However if you watch the video it’s the best solution for pre 2012 homes without sheet metal installed. Most of these homes are without sheet metal prior to it being code. Most of them are corner nailed with compromised corners and most homeowners to not want to replace their siding. This is the best solution for this situation.

I found a box of loxon S1 would that work?
@mallerpaintingcompanyАй бұрын
The S1 has a much longer dry time so if you’re waiting 1-2 weeks for it to dry before you paint then yes. The H1 is ready to paint in 24hr

@@mallerpaintingcompany yeah I’m okay with waiting to paint so I ended up going with it they gave me the box 40% off so hard to pass up. One other question I did apply it today and we are expecting rain the next 2 days is that something I need to be concern with?

@sidingmaster curious as to why you think so and what's better? Vinyl? SS? Cedar Shakes?
@amateurwrestlingrules42523 ай бұрын
@@backdoorprod ALL siding has a downfall, NONE are perfect. Due to the elements they face on exterior installations, including movement. Hardie siding is as good and better than most IMO. Birds and insects do NOT like it nearly as much as wood, especially Cedar which was mentioned. Vinyl looks cheap IMO.

@@amateurwrestlingrules4252 We resided our main house with Hardie last year. I really like it. It's super important to make sure you have a well framed house, solid backing (sheathing) and use a drainable house wrap and install to spec (using butt joints and definitely no caulk in the seams) using the correct caulking around the trim and making sure you leave all ground facing trim uncaulked. But if you install to spec it's actually pretty good siding. We have had vinyl before and I hated it. I dont care for the SS and cedar shakes look amazing but its a bit of work to maintain and replace down the road. There is some amazing looking metal siding out there and a few other options that are $$$. I was just curious as to why @sidingmaster didn't like the Hardie. You can't just say something is crap and drop the mike. It's just polite to esplain. We are now residing the 2nd house on our property and are installing the Hardie again. Goes up quick once you get everything else dialed in and I really like the look of it.

@@backdoorprodwe have Hardie on our house and went through the class action lawsuit process a few years ago because the type we have shrunk/contracted so much. (Which is what brought me to this video. How do I repair without re-siding the whole house? Hardie didn't payout nearly the cost of the siding...) I'm a homeowner, so couldn't tell you a better option, I just know I have a house wrapped in a bad product. To be fair, the newer (post 2012, maybe?) siding is supposed to have fixed the shrinking/contracting issue, but I wouldn't buy it again.
