This video is a tutorial for how to polarize the LCD screens on a 2007 CBR600RR dashboard. You can buy the polarization film at: www.polarization.com/polarshop...

One more tip to add. When applying the polarization film to the larger screen, unlike @ 9:00, do not apply it with the notched corner away from you. Rotate it 180* so that the notch is facing you. Now, when you apply the polarization film to it, the screen won't jump up at you and accidentally touch the film. The glue on this new film is absolutely unforgiving. If it peels up at all it will leave a mark that you cannot squeegee out (unlike a phone screen protector where you can peel up and reapply repeatedly). My method (took 3 attempts to figure this out) is to take the large LCD, have the notch face away from you, put the silicone under the little groove away from you to keep it level(ish) and from wiggling about, angle the polarization film as suggested in the video but instead of using your fingers to apply it use a credit card to apply it in a motion away from your body. This way, you'll apply it completely and as long as the film in front of you is still angled you should avoid air bubbles in the middle. You can do a couple of practice runs with the film before removing the protective layers from the film to nail the technique, since I was only able to get about 3 cuts out of the film large enough to do the large panel. Also, made sure you trim the edges of the applied film flush to the glass. If they stick out even 1mm or 1/32" from the edge of the glass they might get squeezed in during re-installation which will cause the film to peel up and will expose the film's glue making it look really bad. I used the same scraper blade that I used to peel back the OEM polarization film to scrape the excess film from the edges to give it a flush finish.

I really wish you could make one for the led instalation. This video was so helpfull and you did such a great job making it sensable. Fantastic work man!

Thanks for the guide. Just wanted to add for others doing this mod that you'll want to get 99% isopropyl alcohol. 70% is better at disinfecting, but 99% is needed to clear away the gunk better. It took me a LOT of effort to due, and I had success alternating between a combination of using a scraping blade and isopropyl. As long as you keep the blade level against the glass you should be fine. There's no real danger of scraping the glass, unless one corner of the blade lifts up and the corner of the blade scores the glass, so keep your blade edge completely level against the glass.

Hi, is it harder to see the display under sunlight if you reverse the polarized film like this?

excelent you are the master, but common people like us can´t perform successfully like you, congrats!!, we will call you If I had this kind of throuble, regards

thanks for sharing. i am walking arround with the same Idea, people told me it wouldnt work, you showed me otherwise. the numbers are the colors of the backlight isnt it? will it still show the clock when you turn the power off? guess the clock also dissapears because there is no backlight anymore.

how did you changed the led to white? i only want to change the orange into white led color.

I’ve seen a different setup in which the film is suppose to be positioned where the screen is visible not dark. So what’s the visibility of your work?

Hello, I bought my speedometer and the backlight does not turn on when I turn the key at night. The indicators are dark. Is it possible to change the light bulbs?

Hi there, I got a serious problem with my speedometer, the two screens ( fuel display, speed display, temperature display, and rev stop working after I jumpstart my bike with a car as the battery was drained out. My bike is running normal except these two screens stop display information and the rev stop working. Can someone help me out as I really don't know what to do.

You need PLCC-2 LEDs. You can get them very cheap on eBay.

it would have been much better if you have shown the before state how LCD looks with damaged polarized film

How about a gauge led color change video? Cant find one for the CBR600RR any where
@st8kout18 жыл бұрын
+BkzNotoriousPapi You can see the LED locations at 12:05 just before he puts the white covers back on, plus a few more scattered around the board. These are surface mount LEDs and you simple unsolder/remove them and solder in whatever color you want. It helps to have a very good soldering setup, not one of those cheapo Radio Shack irons. You can not heat these LEDs too long or it will cook them, only 1 or 2 seconds each pin, letting it cool off after each pin. I bought a Blue Gauges kit to do mine some years ago and it looks great.

question. do you have to remove the film off of the LCD screen or can you just apply the polarized film on top of the existing film?
@RUSKIRIDER10 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. You do have to remove the original polarization film. It will not work otherwise.

Hi listen I have a toyota 86 with a stock stereo which is disgusting all green backlight. Check this is my stereo oi57.tinypic.com/fxrlg0.jpg, it's all background green , I want it to end up like this one oi58.tinypic.com/2lcwhdv.jpg. How do I know which resistors I need to swap for the smd leds. thanks
@RUSKIRIDER10 жыл бұрын
You don't need to change any resistors. You need to replace the stock LEDs with the color you want. If you want all of the LEDs to be the same color then just change all the LEDs, but if you want to use different color LEDs in different areas of the stereo then you'll either have to do some estimating of where each LED on the board will shine or (if you're lucky) find a guide online. Forums for your specific car are a good place to look. Having said all that, if you don't have any soldering experience, I would NOT recommend you try and change the LEDs. surface mount soldering takes lots of practice.

Hi don't worry I know how to SMD solder I have a sodler station and have been doing smd for a long time. Using flux. What worried me was if the smd I bought ( I bought a bunch of smd's 0805 different color which supposedly are super bright) . I Thought these leds might be driving more amps than the stock ones. In fact when I light up the gauge backlight these leds from the stereo light up. So I was worried about it might be driving more and might blow any the fuse. There's where I needed your help and experience. :). If I wanted to use different color leds on different areas why did you say about estimating where they will shine if smd's are positioned and the light is focused. I Guess? I didn't buy a polarizing film cause I found a sheet for 22 bucks High contrast Film , I just wanted just a tiny bit. Do you know any other place for a tiny bit of a display? Huge thanks
@RUSKIRIDER10 жыл бұрын
You don't need to worry about the resistors. The resistors are there only to limit the current flowing through the LED for the LED's protection so it doesn't burn out. The resistors that are in the board will be sufficient to protect any LEDs you might want to put in there. Disregard my comment about estimating the position of the LEDs. I misinterpreted your original question. I just meant that if you want, say, button A to be blue and button B to be orange, you'll have to kind of guess which LED on the board shines behind button A and which one shines behind button B. I haven't really explored too many places to buy polarization film, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. I had a bunch left over from when I did my project, but I've given it away.

Great job mate but i think that 99.9% of the people dont want to waste time on all that work.
@Noel1274 жыл бұрын
why would you cut the film that way, whats wrong with you man!
@st8kout18 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree with using that liquid flux on electronics. If you buy the correct type of solder for electronics, it will contain the correct type of flux needed. Any other type is deadly to circuit boards. Don't use them.
