Don't try to remove the cap. Some models have power cable connected to it. Just lift it up and change.

Your wife was pointing at the junk in the air box. You should have vacuumed that out.

That's GM (Get a Mechanic). What can you say? Try to change the headlamps.

My 2012 was a PITA to get off. Couldn't slide it forward like you did because there is a crankcase breather hose attached to the back of the cover. The best I could do was to lift it up and slide the new filter in. This car has a piss poor design with fenders narrowing at the front. Not built for DIYs.
