Hey Jeff, I just replaced my countershaft seal on my 2014 KTM 250 XC-W and was totally oblivious to the fact the the seal does not have a step that stops it from going in any further, so I drove mine in about a quarter of an inch too deep into the case, to I need to pull it out and make it flush?

+ckoford11 I would start over with a new seal.

if your seals keep going you may need to 1. clean behind your countershaft sprocket (remove sprocket ) get rid of grass and debris, they will heat up the seal. 2. chain may be too tight forcing bearing and shaft into seal wearing it faster.

why did you put the new seal on before you put the new o ring in? when you took it off the old I ring was behind the seal.

The o-ring is on the shaft, not behind the seal.

Jeff is the counter shaft seal part of the engine or clutch side? A assume engine side, and how much oil will potentially leak from the seal, many times ive checked my oil threw the sight window and there is no visible oil in the sight glass. There is oil around the front sprocket but not so much that you would think for sure there is a leak on the counter-shaft seal? OR is it that my bike just burns oil? dosent smoke at all? bike is a 2008 KTM EXCR 530 Any input?

In 2008 530s had 2 problems with oil consumption. 1. Several had piston rings that failed prematurely 2. Left side crank seal issue.

great tip is to put the seal in the freezer for an hour before you install it.
