This was 100% the symptoms of my 2016 Jeep Compass. It was an easy fix for an average DIY-er like myself. One additional issue after this fix was a check engine light with a code 0339 that required me to replace the crankshaft position sensor. After that and removing/reseating the negative battery cable, I was back in business. This tip saved me $2500 that the repair shop quoted to replace the wiring harness. I spent $80 plus several hours over the course of 4 days and getting stuck a couple times as I test drove before sensor replacement. Thanks!

Excellent video. I used to work at an auto part store for a couple years and yes i saw that happen left & right all the time with the code scanner. Many coworkers would sell anything promising it’ll solve the customers issues. I would take a different approach, I would refuse to sell any parts based off an in house scan. Instead I’d print out their code reads/w the possible fixes and educate them but make it extremely clear that those fixes are meant be considered only suggestions & a starting point to check if gonna be diy’d since each case is unique. However my overall advice to them would be to go to a recommended shop , spend some $$ and get a professional proper diag and then come back to make their purchase. Many people appreciated thats and trusted that my interest was with them and not the greedy ass auto stores pockets. This ultimately lead to lots of repeat business for both the stores & recommended auto shops & benefited customers who only had to spend only the most necessary amount of money. Win win.

What are you supposed to do after replacing it? Do you just take it for a drive and can you just unplug the battery to reset the codes?

Parts can be returned to any parts store, at any time, for the same damned consideration you spent on it to originally procure it UNLESS THE PART IS A SENSOR AND IT'S BEEN INSTALLED!!! The "true problem" is they're never going to pay a counterman enough damned money to even begin to come across as an armchair mechanic during any given transaction. The words under the logo on the teat of their shirt says "Auto Parts" not "Free Mechanical Advice." And you're already there to "solve your own self-diagnosed problem" not "take the journey with a tween getting paid less than $15 an hr" to hold them accountable for a repair you're responsible for completing to your own, or a clients, satisfaction. Shit, even Lucy charged Charlie Brown a nickel for advice.
