How to change a Sears GT6000 lawn tractor drive belt and engine pulley

My lawn tractor has been showing signs of drive belt slipping, SO I decided to change the belt and also the worn engine drive pulley

There are 2 bolts right beside the steering plate, where it connects to the shaft. you can unscrew and push the steering shaft up then you can move the belt under it.

I tried to remove the steering shaft but couldn’t find a better way to get around the problem, but I possibly missed an easier way. Thanks for watching and commenting!

What size is the drive belt on a gt6000? 81" or 85"?

The part number is 420807 which I searched and it says is 1/2” X 81” Good luck! Thanks for Watching’

Oh, and the cylinders point forward on the tractor, so the oil was actually tipped away from them

What's the belt number for that drive

Man, it’s been a long time since I bought the belt. Let me look at my parts manual….. The tractor part no. Is: 917.288611 Drive belt 420807 Drive pulley 194343 Deck belt 196103 Hope this helps Thanks for watching!

So my question is did you even have to drop the clutch I just pulled my deck and attempted this belt and realized it was around the steering shaft before I even dropped the clutch

@@Paniro02 I took off the clutch because I also replaced the drive pulley as recommended by a KZbin channel “Dony Boy” who specializes on small engine and lawn equipment repair. If you’re not changing the pulley I don’t think you need to remove the clutch. Thanks for Watching!
