great tutorial, ive done many springs exactly the way you do and always treat the job with utter respect, as you say there is a shitload of force when compressing the spring. one thing ive learned is to wrap amalgimum tape around the Jaws of the tool as it helps grip the spring and does not mark it.

I just removed the spring off a Honda Hawk GT and a CBR900rr with two car spring clamps. It works much better if you use an impact driver because you can control the compression of the spring a little better than with a ratchet.

Glad it all went to plan. Good workaround with an economical tool. Maybe cut those clear protectors lengthwise in half, lay them on the spring with concave inner area wrapping over the spring. 👍 When Techs Rock, America Rolls®!

Good idea! Now that I've used it, I have much more confidence it can be used safely. I still like the idea of a "cage" protector and plan to cut a piece pvc pipe to enclose around it and maybe use steel hose clamps to give extra support. Doubt anything would happen but working safe is one way "techs rock". So cool to see TechForce comment here. Once it’s Clamped, Grab a Few Thick Zip Ties and Tie the Shock spring in Place as a 2nd Safety Mechanism, I use this for 3/4 ton Truck Springs

Nice video. I come from an industrial mechanic background so I’ve worked on really big machines. I know that small fasteners are a lot stronger than you’d think, but I about shit when I saw that all that holds that highly compressed spring is a snap ring!!!! Anyway I liked the video
