Thank you sir for you help. I am impressed how hard you work and hustle. I can recall the days long ago I could attack a job like that. Now I just try to survive them. It's good to have some help at least to grab tools and parts so you don't have to get up and down a million times. I just bought a rig like that, a Florida car with no rust, which never happens here in NH. Now I have to learn to maintain it. I can't even see the back 3 spark plugs so I hope they are not an issue any time soon. I went from a truck to a minivan and I like the ease of getting in with 2 replacement hips and 2 shoulders. I just hope it holds up and the ABS goes off or at least doesn't prevent me from getting a sticker.

Very good upload. You are doing a good service for those DIY that need visual. Enjoyed it. Thank you. For those who what to know how to check a bad front bearing. When you turn your wheel left and you hear a bearing grind it is you right side going bad and visa versa. I generally find a small hill turn off the motor put it neutral and let coast down and turn the wheel left. A bad right bearing will be very noticeable and grind, visa versa. Hope that helps to verify. As Daniel said you must be specific on toque for the axle nut, if you over torque it, it will wear out and if you hit to many pot holes it will destroy the bearing. Enjoy

Really? Jack up your care and try to wiggle your wheel from the 12 and 6 o'clock position. Any play means bad bearing, Don't go by sound. Vehicle inspection doesn't . Thanks for this video of a hard working guy. Very helpful. Thanks.

Thank you for the nice and simple video. I just changed a wheel bearing on a Venture 2002, and other than a few tight nuts it was straight forrward.

just did mine, if you have the tools, I compressed the springs a bit and removed the strut bolts (the two above the hub assembly) and the whole thing flops down and gives easy access to the nuts. drift punch really helps to line the strut bolts back up. took less than two hours start to finish.

This is what I'll need to do to my 2003 Venture, in the next day or 2. The left side is making a loud rumbling noise. I did it already 5 yrs ago. Cheap parts don't last. As Mike Sommers mentioned, one way of knowing which side is bad, is by turning the steering wheel left and right while driving. If you hear the noise when turning RIGHT, that means that the LEFT side is bad. Yes, the opposite side of the turn, so, if you hear the noise while turning LEFT, that means the RIGHT side is bad. There's no need to loosen the strut bolts, as if you do so and the strut assembly moves even a hair, the van alignment will go off, meaning, it will then need a wheel alignment. It's best to loosen the shaft bolt with the wheel still on and on the ground, that way there will be no disturbance to the drive shaft CV Joint if loosing the nut afterwards with the wheel off. Also, Once the main nut is removed and the ABS connerctor unplugged, and the bearing hub bolts removed, you should be able to pull off the hub half way, then, you can push the shaft inwards just enough to pull out the ABS connection wire attached to the old hub, and then again to be able to pass through the new one. Careful not to damage the wire and connection and also be careful not to damage the CV Boot. From what I noticed in this video, it seems he has also replaced the Tie Rod End, since it looks new. To all DIY Mechanics out there, remember one important rule: Health & Safety!! Quite often the simpler task turns out to be a total ******* nightmare. Be safe and good luck. Take care.

Hmmm I also have a 2003 Chevy Venture and the driver's side wheel bearing is bad...about to change the hub assembly soon. I was wondering what size axel nut socket I would need. Previously own a 2008 Chevy Uplander minivan and I had to replace the hub assembly on it once too. I had to buy a socket for the axle nut....it's a 33mm(rather than the 34mm you have here) and I thought hmmm maybe it will work on the Venture. popped the lug cover off to see and this 33mm fits the axle nut but there is a lil bit of wiggle room. I mean it's not super snug on the nut...I think it's right but could it possibly be a 32mm instead? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense...I figured mine would've been a 34mm same as yours cause they're the same year. but no way a 34mm would work...it would be much too big...the 33mm has a little wiggle room itself. Also I don't have air tools...I should be able to do it without them right? I know I didn't have air tools when I replaced the hub assembly on the chevy uplander

Swivel sockets makes getting to hub bolts easier....I loosen axle nut with big breaker bar while van is resting on tires. I've done a few of these and got it down to about a 20 minute job
@ednja3 жыл бұрын
Do the old hubs always come off that easy on these minivans or do you sometimes have to use a puller? Also, I noticed the manuals say to replace the 3 hub bolts with new ones. Did you use new ones? Is it really necessary to use new ones? I doubt that anyone will answer me and probably I'll already be finished fixing my van several months before anyone replies.

One very important step to make sure your bearing lasts more than 6-12 months. ALWAYS use a torque wrench to tighten the spinner nut to spec, which is 118 ft lbs

“Always hand start wheel lugs” Tell me about it! I just had a nightmare brake job. I believe someone cross threaded them because they were WAY too tight and damaged the threads when I took them off one of the lug nuts couldn’t be hand-threaded at all and one of the studs lost all of its threads as one big coil when I busted out the torque wrench (sheared before anywhere near spec). Getting them off was a nightmare as they broke every impact tool I had. I resorted to a butane torch squelched with WD-40 before jumping up and down on my breaker bar... and I weigh a lot. I don’t trust the other studs even though I was able to get up to torque. Compared to the other three, the hub looks like a new replacement which makes sense because there is body damage around the wheel and junkyard numbers painted on the rim. It’s a shame that the new one is the one someone screwed up!

Another indicator of a bad wheel bearing besides play when grabbing both the 12 and 6 position of the wheel along with the 9 and 3 position is both inner and outer tire wear.
