Superb. Well explained about the small screw being there. Struggled for well over an hour trying to get the bulbholder back. Then watched your video and went straight in. Thank you for doing this film

The screw is a Torx T20 on all Astra J models and you don't have to remove the air filter cover, the whole filter box just pops out giving much improved access!!!

My wife's early "J" model (1012 pre-facelift) has torx screws. I had a look yeasterday but my fingers were too cold to start replacing the bulbs for better ones. The whole airbox can probably just be taken off the hose and pulled upwards and completely out of the way. Also, don't touch any vehicle bulb with bare fingers. It may leave sweat, oil or grease on them (just body oils, let alone car stuff) which can heat up and create a hot-spot very quickly when the bulb gets hot and can blow the glass! Use clean gloves or clean the bulbs and dry them well before fitting them ;) Otherwise, nice job - thanks.

A great help thanks - LHS headlight far harder to do than the RHS!! Realising I could just pull out the water inlet pipe made such a difference although I have really struggled with the screws. I'm surprised they didn't creat a twist lock mechanism.

Hi R4mans, just discovered that the facelift model Astra J has T20 Torx screws. Tip: DO NOT REMOVE THEM, only loosen them or (as I did), you'll end up in all manner of difficult places (one of the screws fell into the light mounting. needed a magnetic extender to rescue it!!).
@MoutazKhaled3 жыл бұрын
How many screws did you loosen per bulb?

Great video, many thanks. If there has ever been a case for paying Halfords to fit your bulbs, the Astra J is the car to do it on 😂
@zanegrey43643 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. If you ever touch the new bulb with your bare fingers it can cause the bulb to fail very soon if not straight away. If i touch a bulb be mistake or use a second hand one I recommend wiping it with alcohol or acetone nail varnish remover before fitting it.

I love how with most cars (but mainly the Astra) you have to dismantle half the engine bay just to change a headlight bulb, and how do you prevent the small, fiddly silver retaining screw from falling into the headlight housing or getting lost in the engine bay when loosening it
@benmcdonnell41675 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this useful video, without which I would not have known how to do the job. Even with the video, which explains that you need to loosen the screws, it was still quite difficult. The RHS Main beam bottom screw is not accessible by most TX20 fittings, I had to bend a L shaped TX20 key to get it to fit inside the headlight casing. I first went to Halfords to see if they had a Universal Joint small enough to fit a TX20 socket inside the headlight case, but they didn't. For the two dipped beams, I had to use an illuminated mirror and get the trick of working with a mirror. Very tricky job.

Hi I've noticed that we have the hir 9005 bulbs in our gtc 2015 but I can't seem to pull the drivers side out ...or will I need to undo the torx screw to withdraw it as your video cheers
@djinbleu4 жыл бұрын
Great video, haynes manual does not talk about loosening the screws, a good tip is to use a borescope to view where the screws are IF you have one, a huge pain in the arse to do some of the lights, you do need to loosen one of the screws to get the bulb screwed back in as the video suggests.
@dantootill76442 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I had to change the same bulb you were demonstrating. Only, on my Astra they weren't Phillips screws, THEY WERE SECURITY SCREWS!!! You know, those ones that are like a six-pointed star. Honest to god, why?!

@AkinaGhost2 жыл бұрын
D1S bulbs are xenon. You can't replace them with "normal" bulbs - halogen or LED. There's a bunch of LED bulbs showing up on the market to specifically replace xenon bulbs but don't bother with them, they're not plug & play and the light output is far worse than xenon bulbs.

good vid thanks but the passenger side (UK) is bollox MF-er. I undid torx screw and it fell in the car innards somehow - then changed bub after tugging like fck at the bulb housing and prying up with screwdriver. Fitted bulb into the hole then stuffed garage hand towel (like kitchen roll but tougher) into the void and stuck the cover back on. Not sure if its going to fire up or hold or wobble all over the place but at least 2 lights now. That's the dumbest ever design for changing a sodding bulb. Good luck anyone still trying this.
