Hat’s off to you sir. Excellent camera/video work. You clearly recognized the need for quality DIYs for C5s and you way overfilled that need. Saved me about $350 per assembly. by not having to bend over at we all know where

Thank you Chris, your video really guided me through this job on my own '99. Yours was the only video about this task that advised disconnecting the upper control arm from the car so that I could lower the entire knuckle away from the shock absorber. It was the only way I could fit my ball joint separator in place to pop the lower ball joint. On that topic, after borrowing a few of these ball joint separators from Autozone, only to find none was big enough, I ended up borrowing their basic pitman arm separator which worked perfectly.

The rear axle nut is a torque to yield nut and cannot be re-used. I didnt see if you mentioned that or not, but you must use new axle nuts as they can only he tightened one time

Question, why can’t the 3 Torx bolts that secure the bearing assembly to the hub be removed and the bearing assembly be removed from the hub without disconnecting the ball joint and tie rod ends? I left the upper ball joint and the tie rod attached. Removed the sway bar bolt and pushed down the lower ball joint bolt until I could access the lower bearing torx bolt and replaced the front bearing.

Why take the whole spindle assembly off? I just did mine and after the brake assembly was removed I just loosened the lower ball joint. Was able to remove the three torx bolts and replace the hub in a few minutes. Probably saved me an hour of work.

Great video Chris! I’m about to replace my rear wheels bearings since I can hear the whining noise at highway speed. Just wondering if yours making same noise before you replace them? If so, did the noise gone after you replace them? Thanks!
@mycorvettelife4 жыл бұрын
No, I just replaced them because I already had everything apart and they have 120k miles. Preventative maintenance. I still haven’t driven it yet.
@v8inmk24 жыл бұрын
My Corvette Life got you, mine only has 76k miles and starting make those noise, which really drive me nuts. I will try to replace it by myself sometime later, so for tools, I don’t have any impact guns, do you think it is still doable? I already have most of then manual tools like break bar and torque wrench, from what I see in your video, the only other special tool I need to buy is a ball joint separator, is that right? Thanks Chris.

If you don’t have an air compressor think about getting a cordless electric impact.
