Look at the list of qualifications/skills wanted on most IT job adverts. Many want a degree in IT, network quals, Cisco router quals, Microsoft quals, SQL, plus experience, etc. And many of these things need updating on a regular basis. A LOT of study and expense
@anny231085 жыл бұрын
It takes apparently 8 to 12 months to complete and it seems that it can only be free for US people and if you apply (not by default). In 12 month I could learn a programming language, while the idea is not bad, I believe that IT support is not really a domain in which to invest a year of someone's life.
@StereotypeBreakers5 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much time you dedicate every week. 6-8 months is the average, but if you can't study on a regular basis, it might take longer
@anny231085 жыл бұрын
@@StereotypeBreakers I appreciate you getting back, it shows that you believe in this. The course is 104 hours, I agree that it can be done in 6 months if you dedicate 2-3 hours a day (104 is just content, usually on Coursera - if I well remember there were plenty of exercises so I feel saying 2-3hours a day is fair). There are conversion masters for a year (in computer science) which may involve a similar level of effort ( and indeed way more money than this certificate but at you end you can apply for a programming job rather than IT support). And also one will need a degree already to apply for a conversion master. Thank you for sharing this, it may benefit some people.
@StereotypeBreakers5 жыл бұрын
I agree, you can definitely do a specialised program in that timeframe! This certificate will be useful for someone who isn't necessarily ready to specialize and might be overwhelmed by options :)

Thank you so much for this video content. I currently work in the education system as an instructional assistant. Prior to that I worked in the health field as a certified occupational therapy assisting for almost a decade. I have been thoroughly satisfied with my career path, and look forward to starting something new in the field of IT. This video has been so helpful to me to know where to start. Thank you again.

I'm coming from the oil and gas industry. We make really good, fast money but there are lots of lay offs/chasing work and I'm over it. I've always wanted to get into the tech field and work for Google, Amazon or some other big known company doing techie stuff. I look forward to this transition and will be looking at Chelsea's story. This pandemic has really shown me that I need to be in the tech field. I don't want to have to stress about a job ever again.

What about income? The reason people say Financial Stability (or instability) is a hindrance from changing careers is because you don't want to go from $100K down to $60k or something. How much can be expected as salary at the entry level?
@jasoncheung84074 жыл бұрын
A salary cut is common but that depends on the career you're transitioning from. If from say consulting or finance into tech ops or product, you won't always receive a pay cut since it's very common to go from those industries to tech.

Completed the google it certificate through my college. It was easy with the questions that pops up every 5 to 10 mins, which did help. Module 4 probably is the hardest because it seems the least interesting. My favorite was module 5. I would recommend it, though I still have not gotten any job requests from the competition of the certificate.
