I'd like to know how to get around the "no experience no job; no job no experience" issue that career changers get. Your idea to post transferable skills is a good one, but it doesn't work when employers don't care about transferable skills.

how do u do any of these steps when you don't know what career you want to change to ? suppose you just think you might not want to carry on doing what u are doing.

1. You must want it bad. Make list 2. What are you willing to sacrifice for it? 3. You have to discover what capabilities/qualities are necessary for your particular dream. 4. Connect to people already doing your dream job/career. Get insights for changes you should be making. 5. Building a Franken-mentor. Also can be virtual, following experts and their advice. 6. Struggle and Plan for it. Envision struggle more than outcome(success), it will make your actions more realistic and calculated. 7. Market yourself. Execute your plan.

I'm 32 and been working full time night shift for 16 years. Half my life. Finally taking steps to take my life back. After having a few serious health scares, it's an eye opener how little a company values human life.

☹️ I'm planning to change my career. Great benefits and pay but treat you like dirt, a number and disposable. If you die means that a job opening is ready to fill. 😭 Management won't care about you, your health or your family. They pay part of the Life insurance premium so your family won't make a complain or fuss about their loss. WTF a worker died and it was discovered around lunch time. Yet his donkin donuts bag was on his desk.

Fantastic tips. Getting out there to meet people is one of the best investments for your time. Many people have the misconception that meeting people would give them opportunities. It doesn't happen that way. You have to build trust, just like no one (most people) would marry you when you meet them the first time. One of the best lessons I got from meeting people is learning what others do. Sometimes, you realise what others do are exactly what you could be doing and you have the exact skills for it, but just never thought about it. This is where it broadens your mind as well!

I have literally applied all of your methods from a variety of videos. I even purchased 3 of your books. I think you have great content, but it has been a year and zero luck. I am ready to just bawl my eyes out, as I have one month left of survival. I used to be an accountant and was horrible at it. I would literally fall back into a depression if I had to go back into it. Again, great content. I know you said hang in there before on prior comments, but I am just feeling stuck now.

I find myself in a bit of a predicament and could use some guidance. Over the past three years, I've been quite stuck in my comfort zone. I come from a marketing and social media background, but unfortunately, I have only gained limited experience due to the challenging job market in my country. It's quite the norm here that positions require experience, with few exceptions for internships. I'm currently 33 and feeling a bit lost and confused about my career path. I believe that seeking advice from an expert like you could shed some light on my situation and help me navigate through this uncertain phase. Thank you

I honestly believe the majority of people won't get to feel happy and fulfilled from work, that the answer is saving and investing in a minimalist lifestyle, and that the correct play is to buy property and rent it out or open a small business. I am very unhappy and have held a dozen different jobs always believing "this will be the one". After getting my ideal job and discovering it wasn't what it was represented as I truly believe to be fulfilled most, not all but most people will need to get those experiences outside a traditional job.

In the business/corporate world, I have found it to be extremely difficult to make even a slight career change. I am in the tax accounting field and there have been times where I wanted to transition into a general accounting role. It never worked out. Tax is considered to be a specialty and pays higher, so employers would raise their eyebrows as to why I wanted to move into something more generalized and pays less. Imagine that. I have a master's degree in accounting but can't get an accounting job unless it's tax related. However, I have seen people make career changes internally with their current employer. But seeking career change as an outsider to a company gives the employer hesitation, from my experience.

You say that we should be sure it's a "burning desire" not a "passing fancy". I get the sense in this, but here's my problem: I've never had any burning desires career-wise. I wanted to be a scriptwriter of filmmaker, I was in the right course at Unit to do this, yet I ended up working in a library, and then becoming a teacher. This is because even my main interest did not make me feel so passionate to do anything it takes to work in that industry. I still want to be involved in the film/media industry, but I simply don't know where to start, and knowing that I have never had the passion to seek out that career even when young puts me off trying now, despite the fact I know that is what I've always been interested in.

I am trying to change from sales of capital equipment of industrial machinery (including software and automation) to SaaS sales. It's difficult though and MBA is not helping. Could it be because I am not emphasising relevant aspects in my CV or do I need to build additional experience e.g. consult pro bono to SaaS companies to build the learning curve, etc.? I am getting AWS Cloud practitioner certification to start. thanks !!!

I don't think we should "sacrifice" anything. If it is sacrifice, it feels like we can only have 1 thing but not the other. I would rather think about prioritize. Think what is important and what is not and make a list of non-negotiables of work BEFORE you look for a job.

@andylacivita
@andylacivita 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Ma Ma. you can make changes without sacrificing if you're will to make the change very slowly. Most people are making drastic changes and need to "catch up" so to speak, so there's extra work and extra time they need to create in order to do that. Also, many have full-time jobs and need to get a head start on their career change during their nights and weekends. That, in and of itself, is sacrificing your free time. That's what I mean by sacrificing!

if you're at a college, school or university you can often seek free career coaching from the counsellors there! If you aren't a student it might be helpful to play a game where you 'invent' your dream job, and then look for jobs that have all (or at least some) of those things you listed. I think Andrew expands on this at the start of the video when he says to make a list of what you expect/desire out of a career/job

John, I get that. So, overcome that challenge another way. In fact, I'm now in a career where I couldn't talk to anyone who did the job before. The trainers I leverages as coaches also hadn't done this job for my audience. Use what you can. Find what you can. The most important aspect is to be resourceful!!!!!

I'm interested in your post, but I'm at a disadvantage since you didn't put the exact career you are interested in researching, so I will give some broad avenues to explore. When people are in your situation I tell them to imagine you wanted to hire a person in that career. How would you find them?... search LinkedIn, search Indeed for resumes of people in those careers, contact headhunters, call business coaches and ask if they have clients that do that career. Ask Andrew who he knows that could point you in the right direction - he has 36K subscribers. Persistent people find clues and clues lead to answers. Good Luck.
