I used this guide to change the cvt filter and o rings on my 2018 CRV. It is the same basic methods except you remove the air box only. No need to remove the battery on the CRV. CVT warmer was the same sizes as he mentions. Real easy job. I made use of a universal joint on my ratchet and an extension for the lower fastener. Excellent guide btw.

Good work teaching people to do this themselves. When I have to pull out that drain plug I use at least one or 2 6" extension when I have broken it loose. For oil changes I found a set of Cobalt magnetic oil change sockets at Lowes years ago. Not sure of they still make them but they are great. Thanks for the tip on how to reset the minder. I always just held the trip button down until it flashed and repeated until it reset.

9ft lbs. Same as drain pan bolts where there is another filter to change and magnets to clean. Something that should be done as well for a thorough CVT service. All the videos on here are half A-ed. Some just do fluid and ignore BOTH transmission filters, some do what he did, (but mind you there’s a fluid check port that he didn’t show either) and some do fluid and pan filter and ignore the CVT warmer. I don’t get it.

I found your video informative and easy to understand however, you left out a big part. Removing the battery tray in the 2017 Accord deserves a video of it's own. In order to remove the battery tray you need to remove the 1st part of the air intake tube as well as the air filter box so you can access the 3 bolts underneath it. 2 12mm (socket size) holding the tray in, which only need to be loosened not removed, and the one 10mm (socket size) connecting the 2nd part of the air intake to the bottom of the battery tray. There's also a cable holder clipped to the bottom the tray. After the tray is completely unbolted, you can flip it 90 degrees to access the clip easier.

Not sure why he doesn't mention that simply draining the transmission fluid does not get all the fluid in the system. It should be done twice, back to back. That way the original fluid that remains in the transmission after the first drain can circulate and drain the second time around. Obviously you can't get every single drop of the old fluid out, but doing back to back drain/refills can get most of it. It's a small price to pay to help keep a transmission running smooth and last for a very long time. You can change the filter/O rings the second drain. Once the drain/refill cycle is complete, you can check the fluid level by removing the plug just above the drain plug. Once it reaches normal operating temperature and you've cycled the gears, turn the engine off and place your drain pan under the fluid level plug, remove it the same way as the drain plug, and with the engine off if any fluid seeps out of the opening you removed the plug from, you have adequate fluid level. If not, you simply pour in fluid a little at a time until it flows out out of the plug opening. Once it does, you know you have a properly filled tranny.

My honda accord 2013 has 103k milles on it changed cvt fluid every 20k dealer always told me no need to change filter it doesn't even make sense to me.. Should I just do it my self to be sure ? My vehicle doesn't even burn engine oil do take in mind I change it every 3k because of the direct injection. I know my accord will go to 200k no problem what so ever💪🏻

Thanks for the comment! It's not an entirely straightforward answer as Honda doesn't mention changing the filter when the fluid is changed in their list of maintenance items. However, they also do not say that it is intended to be a lifetime filter. Dealerships service departments seem split with some saying it's not necessary and others recommending it be changed around 40k miles. Given that it's a relatively straightforward process once the fluid is drained, Michael wanted to do it for the peace of mind.

I was surprised to hear how much money can be saved by doing it myself. I have the same year vehicle and am fairly certain I could also do it. I saw the comment by No Gimmicks about measuring how much is drained out so that you know how much to put back in. If the fluid level was low to begin with, you might not put in enough. Just a thought...
@BackyardDude2 жыл бұрын
The dip stick is a general measuring for re-filling the fluids! :)
@cm11332 жыл бұрын
There is a 10 mm bolt just above the drain plug that you are supposed to open after you have poured fluid into the transmission and shifted the transmission through the gears. When you open the check plug, if there’s no fluid pouring out add more CVT fluid. If there is fluid pouring out, let it drain until it is just a very slow trickle and then close the check plug and you are done. It is important to have the car at operating temperature so that the CVT fluid can expand like it supposed to before you open the check valve
@mikemaxwell25919 ай бұрын
How did you check the transmission level when adding the fluid?
@davebogan697 ай бұрын
Right above the drain plug there a level check hole. A bolt with a 12mm head that seems to hold nothing. When you remove it you'll see it has an aluminum sealing washer just like the drain plug.
@nogimmicks95582 жыл бұрын
Do you recommend measuring the amount of cvt fluid that I drain so that I know exactly how much to put back in? I noticed on the video you said you were going to put 3 1/2 quarts then your were going to check it, but never seen you check it. Not sure if there is an aftermarket dip stick that I can buy to check it or just measure how much I drain, as I mentioned. Just want to make sure I do not over fill or under fill.
@BackyardDude2 жыл бұрын
We apologize for not showing it, but a couple of inches above the drain plug is a bolt on the transmission housing that can be removed. As you pour in the fluid, any excess will come out of that hole. When that happens, go ahead and put the bolt back in and call it good! Sorry for not explaining that.

Honda service advisor and a life long friend, advised to warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (cooling fans activate). Shift through all gears with 5-10 seconds in each gear. Do this 3 times. Turn off the engine and then check CVT fluid level. Hit fluid expands and you want to get the correct level of fluid within the transmission.
