This video no doubt has helped a lot of people but is certainly not the most efficient procedure. Take off the small spring on the bottom first. Remove the rear retaining spring and swing the rear shoe up and the heavy spring on top will disengage. That's why it has that funny end on it. Everything will be free and easily removed, no messing with the adjuster necessary. Putting it back together just reverse doing that. It's pretty much how you show except not having to struggle with that heavy top spring. The last thing to go back on is that small spring on the bottom. Thanks for the video.

Its a pita to get to that small spring on these brakes. Think first time I took em apart I just took out the adjuster first and they fell apart. Ill try that next time. I also think the bottom spring is installed with the hooks backwards. It was like that from the factory ages ago so I left it that way. makes it more challenging to remove.

@@GhettoWagon I bought my 93 used so no telling how many times or who has worked on it. For me the spring was installed from the front and I replaced it the same way. (If you are using a new hardware kit just snip the old one off) It rides in that groove so it's not going anywhere regardless of direction. If you get a chance to try it this way you will be pleasantly surprised.

Yea I did that once when I was 17 or so Real easy drum brakes on these. Not too many parts. These new AC delco shoes really have bite! Don't buy cheap shoes. I have rear brakes again. I had some parts store shoes when I was in bind (Auto specialty) junk

+Jay Howell No Problem. The 10x2's are pretty easy. The biggest PITA is that top spring that goes to shoe to shoe because it fits awkward. I have not had them apart in awhile so it takes a little figuring. If you have a strong pick like tool you can get it out easier. The last time I took them apart I was 17. Long time ago. Maybe in a few months I can get a video Resurfacing drums when I get to use a brake lathe.

test fit the new shoes in the drum too. Alot of shoes fit bad. I believe the shoes I had were never cut right and i had poor stopping power on a dyno (emissions dyno) etc. These new shoes bite good! AC delco's NOS ones I think made in Canada. Now they are made in mexico Or china Ya drum brakes fly apart put the 2 hold down springs on the backing plate and then they stay put Overall real simple brakes. First time I changed these I was 17, Long time ago.

Ghetto Wagon Thanks for the info. This was my first time and Im 17 haha. Installing a new parking brake to get my first truck inspected and on the road “legally”. What you said about the ac delco parts makes sense. I had to ditch some of the old parts because some of the new ones didn’t fit correctly. Ill redo it all with oem parts in the near future, just to get behind the wheel for now...

@@themodernadventurer4320 Check the little plastic grommets in the frame on the drivers side the parking brake cable goes thorough them. Most of mine cracked recently its a cheap part like 3-4 dollars a piece at the dealer there are 3 or 4 of them. Need to split the parking brake cable at the the connector to replace them. When they get worn the parking brake cable gets chewed on the frame holes if u use it lots like I do I have a few new ones here I need to reinstall soon

@GhettoWagon8 жыл бұрын
If its 2WD and has these small 10 inch drums none of them have the acess hole. Just snug up the adjuster as much as you can. keep test fitting the brake drum on and off to test the drag. When the fitment is as snug as it can get, its good. Its a bad drum design. they never stay tight. Mine are a little better since I out everything new on it, but still, ehh

i was hoping you would go more in depth on the part with the star that you adjust,there is a flat metal tab or flat piece that has a little ear that goes in the cut out groove on the opposite side of the star,the tube that extends,crap i know this is hard to explain,ok on mine lets focus on the adjuster piece.it has two ends that push out on the pads,well the star is on the threaded part and theres a small half inch flat piece of metal clip.it spins around and has a piece that goes in the notch well one side of my truck the flat piece is broke off,so its just hanging down against the star.will this cause a problem? and dude that tool you have makes all the difference removing those springs with the pin that goes thru the back of the drum,i had to use pliers and it sucks bad.anyways what do you think,i can maybe make something,if it does anything,let me know what you think,the job is done just need to put the cubs back on and adjust and bleed.

Hi, I have a 98 C1500 Silverado. Does that use 10x2 brake shoes?
@GhettoWagon7 жыл бұрын
It might. Pull a wheel. If it has a small drum it has the 10x2 They also has a larger size drum but its kind of a rare option for a C1500. The K1500s have it but they are 6 lug
