For a 2015 Murano the actual caliper slider bolt size is 17mm (not 18mm) and 22mm for the assembly (which you had correct). Thanks for the video, it helped a lot!

well done ! I like how Nissan has just two retainers for the pads, my camry has 4, chrysler minivan has 4. Anyway...did the drilled and slotter show any improvement over a "stock" rotor ? Would carbon fiber pads offer any advantage over ceramic ? Don't want to waste money, and more importantly don't want to waste time with cheap or inferior parts either and doing the job twice.

Unless you looking for more serious performance there is no for the slotted etc. I usually keep it regular on my cars. Works just fine. Save the $$
@JackFrost-cj2cw
@JackFrost-cj2cw 2 күн бұрын
Just installed drilled slotted rotors. No difference in performance to regular rotors for normal driving. Costs 30% more. However if you are doing lots of mountain driving with long down runs, the drilled rotors may be a tiny bit better to help with the excessive heat from lots of braking. You will get better stopping power using pads with higher friction rating. OEM pads are usually FF rating (stamped with other numbers on the pad) FG rating is a higher friction rating than FF.

@@JackFrost-cj2cw thanks for the info. I drove my friends car and to me, to me, the brakes are better but I still sense "a hardness" or warpage or grinding, I'll take better notes, but to me, something still is not right. You know, I want to nail the brakes and have it put you through the windshield, in a straight line, with smoothness, over and over again. I bought Wagner, not MIngs Discount. My friend is happy and it passed inspection. Maybe I am just obsessive ?

Great video, but most likely that rotor should have been placed on passenger side. The slots should point to the back of the vehicle when it is in the 12 o'clock position. I believe yours are the opposite.

The slots are in the correct rotation direction. The correct position is with slots pointing forward to the vehicle when upright. The right and left are also stamped on the edge of the rotor as WR or WL. IF the ventilation vanes are curved then the vanes should be pointing backwards to the direction of the forward spinning wheel.

@@JackFrost-cj2cw For rotors with slots machined in the same direction as the internal cooling vanes, the slots should lean toward the back of the car. For rotors with slots machined in the opposite direction as the internal cooling vanes, the slots should lean toward the front of the car.

@johnsavage7076
@johnsavage7076 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, JM. I ordered the Powerstop Z23 front and rear for my 2016. Not sure what the K number was. Maybe an issue with Nissan front brakes? I was lucky to find anything in stock! All other options were out of stock or no longer available. Had the dealership change brakes and rotors at 62k due to warping and vibration when braking. Same thing again now at 99k! That’s why I was looking for something vented. We’ll see. The Powerstops are highly rated. Good luck with your ‘17!
@HowToWithLech
@HowToWithLech 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnsavage7076 honestly vented or not should not be an issue. but quality will depend how long they last and how good perform. just make sure to bed the breaks. break them in when replaced. vented is really for performance etc. make sure to check that pins not seized up etc, so its all breaking even and so on. best of luck.
@JackFrost-cj2cw
@JackFrost-cj2cw 2 күн бұрын
@@johnsavage7076 Driving into a car wash when your brakes are hot from driving on the highway or in traffic is the biggest cause of warped rotors. I usually go to a car wash near my home and only after I let the brakes cool to the touch - about 20 mins after parking (and eating a snack or dinner!). Vented rotors will also warp if using the car wash often when brakes are hot. Having said that, Nissan Murano and Maxima are prone to rotor problems of warping. So use a good aftermarket brand and not the OEM rotors.

How were you able to rotate the wheel with the car off!? I’ve done dozens of brake jobs - I watched this video for socket sizes & torque specs - thanks. Anyway, I saw u turn the wheel, I never do that but decided to this time just cuz I saw you do it - but I had to turn my car on to turn the wheel. Big mistake! The suspension dropped & I was in for a 1hr struggle to get the suspension up & the wheel on in that tight space & without damaging anything. Doesn’t feel like I need an alignment…

@@HowToWithLech my car did not drop, I had trolly jack & safety stand just like you. My question is how did you turn your wheel without turning your car on? I had to turn my car on to turn the wheel. When I turned it on it engaged the suspension & the control arm nearly hit the floor. I couldn’t jack the car up high enough to fit the wheel back on. I had to put a scissor jack on the arm to jack it up. Just wondering how u were able to turn wheel w car off

How many miles did you have your Murano when you changed the brakes and rotors?
@HowToWithLech
@HowToWithLech 2 жыл бұрын
It was my buddy’s. Not sure. It if was definitely time to change them. On average 25 to 50k miles you change. Depends on driving styles. But if yiu hear constant squeaking that was never there before that could be a sign. Grinding noise or vibration , taking longer to stop is all signs. If pads are under 4mm time to start thinking to change.
