How to change front shocks in 2001-2006 Chevy Suburban

A simple video on how to change the front shocks on a 2001-2006 Chevy Suburban. I'm not an expert but I want to show how easy this repair at home can be.

That does not look like too hard a job,but I'm not doing it twice,so I'm replacing all the old bushings with the new ones provided.

I dont understand why you wouldnt just replace the bushings while you have the shock off and the new hardware given to you with the new shock. The old bushing can be hardened (leading to a more bumpy ride), sagging (which would cause excessive movement) or fail outright before the new shock you just put in even starts to go bad. It may even cause your new shocks to wear out prematurely. Its super easy to replace. If the job is worth doing, its worth doing right. Especially if the new hardware is literally right there.

Just an FYI my friend. Baby that passthru ratchet. After almost 20 yrs of wrenching mine needs to be replaced or fixed. If that's the Craftsman one it can not be replaced what so ever . Currently looking for a rebuild kit myself for one.

Strong Like Bull generally it is, it’s just a simple procedure as far as the shock absorber goes on this vehicle.

Shocks are usually not to difficult, it's struts that are way more involved and difficult to do because of the spring that needs compressed to remove them. Maybe you were thinking about those perhaps?..

They make some really good aftermarket coil over shocks where you don't have to compress the spring

I have an 2005 Tahoe I had my shocks replaced but it came with struts do it need that also

your not a dummy, its that they changed the Standard to Millimeter !!! WHY ???? , now i have to go out and get the mm size Tools , why did they change it ???

Why make a job so hard take a grinder or sawzall cut the top nut off. No need to remove the tire just compress the shock and tie it down with tie wire or heavy cable ties. Then once you have the bottom bolt in cut the tie and direct the top of the shock through the hole as it opens back up. And yeah why leave old bushings on when you have new unless you are buying junk products that come with junk bushings.... yet then i ask why put junk on the truck?

@@homemadechow3532 yeah they are called ( bump stops) They go in the pockets above your lower control arm's.

@@homemadechow3532 Amazon has them, don't waist a bunch of money on a more expensive set as they are all the same and work the same way. You can get them for around $20-30 for the set
