This is a very detailed video on how to perform a fuel tank tuck on all Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ. I'll show you all the differences from the early 99-01 and the late models 02-04 and will cover different ways to perform this tuck.
This is also a great video on how to remove the bumper cover and how to lower the gas tank.

Thanks for these videos, been planning on doing this to mine for awhile. Replaced the completely rotted out skid plate before winter because I'm sure it wouldn't last another. @@martinbuilt I might get around to doing that!! how much weight did you shed from vehicle all sad & done. 200 lbs
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 2 жыл бұрын
I kind of doubt I shed too much weight at all because once you add the 14 gauge plate that adds some weight back you could use the light duty skid plate over the heavy duty one that would shed quite a bit as much as 25 pounds. I have considered building a new skip plate with the light duty one to reduce weight. If I was using for off road use I would definitely use the heavy duty skip plate.

Had this on my list to do with the other rear end projects, bumper spare tire carrier, and raise the tank, the well was useless space for me as the 33"x 10" wont fit in it and trying to custom fit stuff to the space is less useful than raising the tank, now i know what to expect. just have to figure out how to relocate that evap system so i can tuck up the bumper better. Nice work on all your stuff Martin, keep up the good work. BTW i did the hydraulic fan delete as well, just a bit different, running 3 electric fans on mine, one full size hemi v8 electric pulling inside and two 10" behind the grill pushing, don't need to run either of the 10's unless i'm crawling at 110 deg + outside.

Another excellent video. I had planned on this for awhile and after cutting the floor out to change the pump it has been moved to further up the list. Unlike Nevada in Michigan I have snow and cold coming soon so it has to wait until spring, my garage is dedicated to my Harley.. One of the biggest reasons for me is to stop dragging it on the ground in the woods. No rocks here but plenty of tight trails and mud bogs, that tank is like an anchor trying to back out of a mud hole, ask me how I know... Moving to AZ soon, looking forward to a totally different type of wheeling, lived out there in the 80's and had a 79 Toyota 4x4 p/u. Took that thing everywhere.

I recommend doing it, I bashed my fuel tank so hard it shifted over and ripped a fuel line out while in Moab, first project getting back from the trip was tucking the tank.

@@aju3307 Oh yeah, been there but not that hard. I caught it on a buried stump in the mud, had me held like Velcro not to mention pushed it up a far amount. Decided right then first project in spring is the tuck.

wondering if u tried just a) flipping the spare cut out 180deg matching the factory bead rolls, b) just cutting 4 (or whatever) in from the spare cut out depth and putting back in?

that not a bad idea, other then it would eliminate any trunk space.

Hello just saw your video I live in Pahrump And I just took possession of a 02 grand Cherokee With the gas tank out for a bad fuel pump But the replacement they acquired looks the same but does not fit It seems like it’s to big for the whole It does push down to the correct high but will not fit in hole the gasket seems to thick or the dia of the head is to big Have you heard of this before And how often are you changing these pumps

Install the gasket 1st in the hole of the tank, then slide the fuel pump assembly into the hole.

i recently dropped the tank on a 03 overland. i was able to pop all wire connections and lines before i took the tank down. i took them off the fuel filter and left the lines on the tank side. the main reason was i able to jump the pump from the connector to pump the fuel out.

I am going off subject I thought about doing this much like you did a 4" tuck another Idea I had was to make a lockable gun case not many people would think to look in there for hunting guns as I got new BFGs they are strong so probably get away with no spare wheel got a can of that air stuff as a backup.

Just wanted to ask you, have you ever used a Superchips tuner on a 01 GC 4.7 non HO before? Thinking about buying one to boost the HP a little and to eliminate the speed limiter too. Not that I plan to drive over a 100 mph though. Thanks Martin.
