How to Change Jaguar XJR XJ8 XKR XK8 Engine Oil 1998 to 2003

I just picked up a '99 XJR. I discovered that with the position of the drain plug at the front, it didn't fully drain the pan when I had the front lifted. I put the plug back in, dropped the car and pulled the plug and got another cup or so of oil out. A bit of an inconvenience, but gives a better change in my opinion.

Hello. I purchased an 01 Vanden Plas. I had it towed hime because I could not open the hood and I was unsure how much oil was in it. Today I got the hood open and it is low. Maybe 1/4 low on the dipstick. 3/4 full. I was going to change it but had a question. The oil has been in there at least two years. Will I damage the engine to let it warm up to do the oil change? Or should I drain it with the oil cold? Should I top it off before I run it for the oil change?

Fill it up with fresh oil before starting and draining the old oil. Oil is cheaper than engine.

Also I think I hear a knock. When I first viewed the car I heard it but ot went away. But maybe I made a mistake buying this. I am not going to run it until I get the oil and ready to change it.

I think 5-40 is for warmer weather so the oil viscosity doesn’t break down sitting in traffic at 100 degrees

EJ have you ever changed or considered changing the transmission fluid in the Jag? Asking because I want to extend the life of the transmission but I also know it is fairly hard to change since it is “sealed for life” what are your thoughts?

Also you didn’t do the final show of proof for us. The last perfect check on the full mark. Didn’t see you demonstrate that on this video. You just closed the hood and said it is done. I WANT TO SEE EXACT PROOF ON A KZbin VIDEO. See? I let it sit all night until morning and see? It is perfect. Just up to the full mark on the dipstick. And we all know from this video that that new oil was mixed with some of that thick soupy old oil unfortunately.

I told my shop I would change my oil myself. They said to put 8 L in and it blew up!!!! X308 means 8 L of motor oil they said Just joking hahaha :D How much oil is needed for the 1998 Jaguar XJR supercharged when changing oil with new oil filter? 7.0 L or 7.5 L ????

Where did you learn to pull on a dipstick up and down that way? You’re not pumping an oil well! You are checking oil on a dipstick! Have it in all the way. Pull it out slowly. Wipe it off. Put it back in all the way slowly. Pull it out all the way again slowly and check your oil level. The last one you did you just pumped it up and down quickly and then you pulled it out quickly without wiping it off again. Did you see that what you did??? Did you notice you got one reading of the level the first time and a different reading the second time? Based on what you did to check it you concluded very quickly one more quart of oil. Omg ! You already put 7 L in there. That’s crazy ! Here is some advice for you.. Put ONLY 6 quarts of new oil in to start with. Even 5 and a half will be fine. Start your motor. Run it for a while maybe 5-10 min. Shut it off. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Check your oil level. This will give you an idea of how much more you need. Then let the car sit for the rest of the day and all night and until morning. In the morning check your oil level when everything is cold and his run down. Do not start the car just check it cold first thing in the morning. This is the best time to check your oil level with the dipstick as I told you the way to use a dipstick. Then in the morning you can slowly add a little oil until you get it close to the full mark. Start the car again and let it run for 5-10 minutes. Shut it off. Let it sit for one whole hour. Check it again. Just up to the full mark should be fine or just slightly under it. But not over it. These motors are sensitive as you said so I think it won’t handle very much over. If over the full mark just very slightly over. 1 or 2 mm at most.. I prefer it to be just up to the bottom of the full mark. You don’t go and put 8 L in these. It won’t handle it. You put 7 Quarts in and said ohhh I need add another quart based on the dipstick. Wrong. 1 ) you already put some new oil in the oil filter correct ? 2 ) you probably didn’t let all the old oil drain out of the oil pan because you had it up on ramps and your front end was up. 3 ) what the book says means the very maximum amount of oil that is added to the engine at factory. 4) you didn’t take the time to let it all drip down for a few hours or over night. Conclusion: I bet you were over the full mark by the next morning after it all had a chance to drip down. Some old oil was still in your engine. Some old oil was still in the pan. ( you didn’t tip the car forward by jacking up the back ) Some new oil was put in the new filter by you. That’s almost a quart of oil right there. But don’t guess. Check it. Check it correctly and top it up slowly and let it sit and check it again.
