Great video. As a mechanic, one thing I feel I should mention is the importance of replacing the crankshaft seals. They only last for so long, and when they start to leak, they suck air, leaning out the fuel air mixture. This can result in poor idle quality, and more importantly it can cause piston failure. So if you're replacing a piston because it failed, it's essential that the seals be changed too. It's something a lot of people overlook.

+Terrace Thornhill What exactly is a crankshaft seal, i am new to 2 strokes
@steveringer71438 жыл бұрын
+Avenger 21 The seals that seals the crank case from outside air. There is one behind the flywheel and one inside the clutch case on the crankshaft. The 2 stroke crankcase is where the air/fuel enters the engine. That's how the crankshaft is lubricated, with the fuel/oil mix.

I do thank you. I have a 1985 cr125 I'm doing the top end myself for the first time. The other videos show like we are already mechanics and skip a lot of little things they don't find necessary to show. But I'm not a mechanic so where you went over piece by piece it helps me out a lot. Example...the copper washers in the front. Little things make a difference. I got my parts yesterday from Honda at closing. I didn't look at them until today. They're closed on Sundays so it will be Monday, they forgot the wrist bearing. I think that's what it's called. The bearing for the connecting rod and piston.

I definitely wouldn't think so. '02-'07 are case reed engines. In '02 they completely redesigned the engine, along with the frame and maybe a few more things, like a RC actuated power valve. A top end change isn't very hard to do though so you'll figure it out. Major peice of advice: GET A SHOP MANUAL. It tells you how to do almost everything, including torque values which are pretty important when your assembling an engine. PM me if you have questions, I should be able to help. Good luck!

Nice video but I had one of these and you don't have to pull the head. The piston slips part way into the cyclinder on assembly and the whole assembly drops down over the rod and you push the pin into place and put in the snap ring in. Much easier to do...it's a bunch easier ....can't do it this way on 2005 and later YZ250's though, not enough room. Same procedure for the 4 strokes...
