Great video. As a mechanic, one thing I feel I should mention is the importance of replacing the crankshaft seals. They only last for so long, and when they start to leak, they suck air, leaning out the fuel air mixture. This can result in poor idle quality, and more importantly it can cause piston failure. So if you're replacing a piston because it failed, it's essential that the seals be changed too. It's something a lot of people overlook.

+Terrace Thornhill What exactly is a crankshaft seal, i am new to 2 strokes
@steveringer7143
@steveringer7143 8 жыл бұрын
+Avenger 21 The seals that seals the crank case from outside air. There is one behind the flywheel and one inside the clutch case on the crankshaft. The 2 stroke crankcase is where the air/fuel enters the engine. That's how the crankshaft is lubricated, with the fuel/oil mix.

Great video, just one tip: When installing the circlips, install them with the gap pointing straight up or straight down. This prevents the clip from being squeezed at high RPM and falling out. Other than that, great job, you've got a sweet CR

I do thank you. I have a 1985 cr125 I'm doing the top end myself for the first time. The other videos show like we are already mechanics and skip a lot of little things they don't find necessary to show. But I'm not a mechanic so where you went over piece by piece it helps me out a lot. Example...the copper washers in the front. Little things make a difference. I got my parts yesterday from Honda at closing. I didn't look at them until today. They're closed on Sundays so it will be Monday, they forgot the wrist bearing. I think that's what it's called. The bearing for the connecting rod and piston.

great video man you gave quite a few good tips but first timers should know to break in the piston very gently like idle warm-ups 3 times than gentle rides for 2 times and rip her to pieces on the track! keep the good work comming man!

really well made video, you helped a lot of ppl. Good job dude! Let ypur bike warm up properly, and you dont need to worry about revving it. touch the cylinder from outside, if its about as hot at you can handle for 5sec's, your good to go full throttle after a couple of good accelerations. And that r2/tts is great oil for 2-strokes.

I definitely wouldn't think so. '02-'07 are case reed engines. In '02 they completely redesigned the engine, along with the frame and maybe a few more things, like a RC actuated power valve. A top end change isn't very hard to do though so you'll figure it out. Major peice of advice: GET A SHOP MANUAL. It tells you how to do almost everything, including torque values which are pretty important when your assembling an engine. PM me if you have questions, I should be able to help. Good luck!

Nathan Mcfall ya but how often do you have to rebuild a 4 stroke? been riding for 6 years but brand new to dirt bikes, it just seems like these 2 strokes have to be babied all the time, so many engine rebuilds!! it just seems a little crazy.. why do these dirt bikes require so much maintenance compared to road bikes where you just change the oil every 4-5000 kms ? by the way, do you have to replace the piston as well as the ring?

Nice video but I had one of these and you don't have to pull the head. The piston slips part way into the cyclinder on assembly and the whole assembly drops down over the rod and you push the pin into place and put in the snap ring in. Much easier to do...it's a bunch easier ....can't do it this way on 2005 and later YZ250's though, not enough room. Same procedure for the 4 strokes...

i live in germany and the price of our gasoline is about 1.60€/Litre. This is 2.11Dollars/Litre. Now imagine you bike consumpts up to 10l/100km. You would be poor in a month. But everything else you said is absolutely true and i would love to have the 40hp of a 2stroke engine instead of my 15hp 4stroke...

sweet piston dude but why wouldn't you clean and wire brush the bolts and use anti-seize on them for future rebuilds? Nice video though
