Whole job took me about an hour. Any questions or comments please don't hesitate to ask. Also, sorry about all the shaking, its really hard to maneuver around the engine while holding the camera steady.

I know right? So gracious of them to give so much room to work. I personally love it when I can only get a quarter turn AND have to flip the wrench every time just to get that quarter turn...said no one ever

For anyone doing this on a 99 RX you need to do the top 2 bolts that are shown, And then loosen the pivot/Mounting bolt for the alternator. Nothing under the car for that one.

Small tips: -loosen the top pivot bolt first (alternator). Tighten last. -pvc pipe works decently for a cheater pipe for this application. -use 6-pt sockets so you don't ruin the bolt heads -use bungee cords to GENTLY keep your hoses out of the way. -a deep socket works well for the alternator adjusting bolt; once it's loose, put some tape on the inside of your right hand (the alternator housing is rough), and grip the deep socket by hand to do the final loosening -you do not need to completely remove the PS adjuster. I did not use wrenches, just the socket set

Hello Lance, Excellent video! Thank you for sharing your experience in great detail. I don't think I would have ventured into changing the drive belt on my 2000 Lexus RX 300 without this video. To help others, I would like to add my experience with this job. I was able to use 14 mm socket and a medium size ratcheting wrench to loosen the Alternator pivot bolt, and 12 mm socket and a small size ratcheting wrench to loosen the Alternator adjusting bolt lock and the adjusting bolt respectively. I moved aside the alternator wiring harness from its locked position (unlock plastic clips) to create enough room to work. Rest is clearly illustrated in your video. Thanks again. Great job!

I just did this job this weekend and had classical music in my head the whole time. Lol. Thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks for the video. There is one more bolt on the power steering pump that you have to loosen, then the power steering pump will be loose so you can put the belt on easier and adjust it. The bolt is at the top of the pump, behind the pulley. You can get to it with a 14mm box end wrench from the right hand side of the pulley.

Thank you. Took about 4 hours for me, as I had a stripped out bolt put in from previous owners on the lower adjustment bolts and had to tap one of them out. However, your instructions were helpful beyond measure.

Okay thank you so much. My 2003 has 130,000 miles and there is a squeal on cold start ups. I will try to replace them soon. Thanks again for the upload. Cheers.

the reason why the power steering pump was so difficult to move is because you didnt loosen the pivot bolt right above the pully.

Thank you for watching. I changed the belt because there was a squeal on startup. Also, at the time the Lexus had 155,000 Miles (249,448 Km) and the belts were never changed. Yes, the belts both had visible cracking but nothing more... I can send you a pic if you like?

Thanks for the help Lance. Just what I needed! (Don't mind the anal retentive comments. I'm an amateur mechanic and I was able to figure out which bolt to loosen first and what size to use!)

Does RX330 have the same belts as RX300? I know Toyota list the part numbers differently but they look the same.

The music is distracting concentration. Did you remove hoses, move items to get access? My '04 needs stuff moved to be able to reach alternator bolts--havonh difficult time with alternator pivot bolt.

Why does everyone think that every video on KZbin HAS to be a music video??? Especially a tech or how-to? And have someone hold the camera.

This video is not correct. The pivot bolt is a 14mm bolt located to the left of the alternator on the RX300 (1MZFE engine). The two bolts shown in the video is the adjusting bolt lock and adjusting bolt. The pivot bolt must be loosened first. Diagram z dot about dot com /d/autorepair/1/0/n/C/78903964.gif
@LanceB10 жыл бұрын
After rechecking sources you are wrong. I do mention to loosen the pivot bolt lock first. 14 mm is the standard on some of these engines but mine took 12 mm. This video is for novices or beginners that don't know the belt tensioning system of toyota or Lexus. If yours takes 14 mm then use 14 mm theres no need to bash people on here that shows this job. Maybe you should post one and it'll be perfect
