I just took mine off today with regular socket and used a flex head ratchet..took some time but just be patient

Would it be difficult to do this replacement with a basic socket set or would I need anything special to reach some of those bolts?

Nope! Basic sockets, a mixture of deep and shallow. Maybe some wrenches too depending on how meaty your hands are

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to thread the bottom bolt (side bolt to the tensioner bolt) into the alternator, any tips?

First I would try threading the bolt into the alternator on the bench just to make sure the threads are ok. Then maybe try changing the order in which you install the bolts. Sometimes it helps to start with the tricky ones first.

Replaced the alternator and the battery light was still on then drove it around and now its dead smh
