Just bought one and this is on the list of jobs, definitely not a 5 minute job like all the other cars I've owned. Thanks for the video 👍

Thanks so much - I appreciate the comments. I think jobs like this are great DIY projects - learn about your vehicle and save some $$ compared to a dealership. Cheers

Fantastic, thank you. I've alway did my own servicing on my GL230 and have changed the air boxes twice now. The hardest part was lining your the lugs in order to fit in. I hear what you say regarding those three clip easy access air filters before Mercedes fitter comes along laughing at you for DIY as it's time proving job. I refuse to pay out approximately AU$500 to do it at Mercedes dealership and therefor my getting to know basic techniques of this fine and reliable feat of the engine. I do love the 30L 6cy X164 engine. Your videos are.are always so clear and well most helpful. Learning from people like yourself shows me to improve on the best way to access this air filter housings, Thanks again, regards, Glenn from South Australia.

Great video - thank you! The engineers who designed this need to be put in straightjackets 😡

Thanks for the comments. I agree - for a service item the air filter system is poor. The entire air intake system with 2 MAF sensors integrated into the plenum is strange. Cheers

They complicate it so you have to take it to them to have the work done 🙈 ....Good job man 👊 💪

Thanks. I appreciate the comments. Sometimes it feels like Merc design them to discourage home mechanics!

do you know the outer dimensions of each filter?
@boatinglife18 күн бұрын
Sorry, I don’t know the dimensions and I don’t own the Merc any longer.

Can you spray something inside it to clean the filter if you can't remove it?
@boatinglife110 ай бұрын
Not really. Being a paper filter anything you spray in will wet them and likely effect the condition of the paper.

@@boatinglife1 even if something like brake cleaner that can loosen and get rid of some oil and soot and seep away and evaporate?
@boatinglife110 ай бұрын
@@alawabidingcitizen That won’t remove the larger items like leaves etc that the filter catches. You may manage to wash some of the dust out if you’re lucky. Ideally they should be replaced.
