is the same method can be applied to change the battery on a 8J movement as well?

When you pull the crown out, does it stop the second hand? I don’t have a quartz watch so I am not sure about that. Thanks!

I have a 9f and it stopped after 1.5 years. second hand in the 12 position. never noticed the 2 second batter warning. how long does this phase normally last? I feel I would have noticed it. the second hand is wanting to move but doesn't. does this sound like it's broken or a battery issue? any advice welcome.
@burbinghard Жыл бұрын
I would guess it’s a cheap battery issue. Higher quality batteries tend to last longer and should still be putting out some power for a longer period of time. I use high quality batteries and will typically see the double tick, and even a triple tick (every 3 seconds) as the battery continues to drain. Cheap batteries have thinner battery walls and don’t last as long. I usually see the double tick for more than a week before I change the battery. I’ve never ran it all the way down just to measure the length of time the low battery indicator has.
@byronhagan82 Жыл бұрын
@@burbinghard it will be the factory Seiko battery so won't be due to that I don't think. you'd still expect the 2 second warning though?

I didn't see any 2 second tick when my original 3.5 year old battery died.

Try to avoid touching the new battery with your fingers.

Looks pretty much like changing the battery on any other quartz watch. After watching a bunch of watchmaker videos where they're super fastidious about not scratching anything or getting the tiniest amount of dust inside the case this video is kind of a crack up. He's not thrashing the thing of course but he's certainly not taking any extra care not to scratch the back of the case. Just treats is like a watch. Reminds you that they aren't accually delicate jewelry.

Yeah sounds easy. I've got the tool and all but... I cannot break the back loose and I have applied what I would say is an enormous amount of force. Kinda wanted to repair my Seiko kinetic for the price of a new capacitor rather than over $100 to Seiko. No dice. $200 buys a new Citizen eco drive. I'll never buy any other watch.

You always need to replace the case back gasket and as a rule you will find that Grand seiko will replace the crown , crown tube, tube gaskets and re pressure check for WR. Changing the battery is easy. I would always send back to GS to complete the job . The temptaion is to do it yourself but sooner or later its going to let you down . Not worth the worry for $100 every three years
@burbinghard Жыл бұрын
The GS service costs about $400, the cost for a 9f movement replacement is less than $500. I’ve been changing my own watch batteries for 15 years without issue. I replace gaskets when they get old or crack/warp. Even if I were to have a catastrophic issue someday, I will have saved money the DIY way. Knowing I’m guaranteed to save money this way reduces my stress to zero.

Sort of sucks. I have a Casio watch cost me 30 bucks the battery lasted 10 years. Spend a few thousand dollars for the GS & battery doesn’t last 3 years…..WOW
@brucesuitt99311 ай бұрын
I’m guessing your Casio is also digital. The GS is also accurate to 10 seconds a year and thermally compensated. It no doubt uses more power to achieve this.

I have a Casio watch whose battery only lasts 2 years and another that lasts at least 10 .... I wouldn't base your judgement of a watch on how long the battery lasts 🙄

Maybe you will also be shocked that a 100k Lange is not a chronometer. You are comparing a robot made plastic piece of crap to a hand assembled metal and hand regulated / decorated movement watch
