How to change the butt-ugly theme on "Tesla Style" stereo for Chevy Cruze using Nova Launcher

Someone asked me if it were possible to install Nova Launcher on the Tesla-style stereo in my Chevy Cruze and then use it to get rid of the ugly default user interface that it came with. While I was not able to get rid of the interface, I did discover that I can change it and that the stereo came with 2 other alternative and better looking themes. All you have to do is install Nova Launcher from the Play Store, open the Factory Settings app (which was not shown before) and use it to change the user interface.
As linked before, this is the stereo I purchased. The thumbnail on the seller page looks different than what I purchased so I will assume they're now selling a revised version of the one that I have.

This will be helpful for Dean below. To get rid of A/C buttons on screen. Settings , Factory , 8888 password for me. then option to choose car varient, sorry can't remember exact name of option. mcu update no problem for me, you need internet. 1.Choose your canbus box ( you might call this something else in U.S, hiworld ,raise etc ) 2. choose car make, opel in my case. 3. choose car model. 4. can't remember, public, only option I think. 5. choose boot logo ( you could upload any photo later through the file manager, finally option for A/C control, in your case don't select to get rid of useless on screen A/C controls that don't work. Only came across this as just installed Nova launcher and just comes up as a black screen after inputting basic options.

Great video! how long does it take to boot once you start your car?

A warm boot takes about 5 or 6 seconds. A cold boot takes a solid minute but the rear camera always works no matter what's going on. There's a timeout setting for the warm/cold behavior based on inactivity to conserve battery. I think it's 18, 24 and 48 hours before it goes from sleep mode to full off.

I have this radio. I can never get it to connect to the internet. How did you get waze on it? My navigation is google maps with a blue circle on the right. Any help?

So I have my android phone providing a wifi hotspot. You would then go into the Settings gear icon in the top ribbon of the stereo then tap the More Settings tab at the top which will open the Android specific settings panel which is where you can go into your wifi connection and connect to a mobile hotspot. Once thats working, check out my other video about using Tasker to automate the enabling and disabling of your phones hotspot by using its bluetooth connection to the stereo as a trigger condition. I believe the Play Store should already be installed and you can use that to install waze. If its not installed you could side load its apk file instead to install it manually, same goes for the play store if its missing. To do that you’ll have to find a download site to get the apk files from, copy to usb flash drive and insert it into the stereos USB cable. Use a file browser app to open each apk; you’ll also have to go into your android security settings and enable install from unknown sources to allow apk install method.

Sp like do u need to run off wifi the entire time or can u play spotify from your phone?

I play Spotify from my phone over Bluetooth, but I simultaneously enable wifi tethering on my phone to give the stereo internet access, so Waze call pull traffic data. I have a video showing how to have that happen automatically using an app called tasker. It uses the Bluetooth connection as a conditional trigger which enables the hotspot, and disable when the Bluetooth connection goes away.

Nova launcher is installed via the Google Play Store. If you don't have the Play Store app installed you can side load it's apk. Here's a page that will show you how to do that if you need to: www.greenbot.com/article/2452614/how-to-sideload-an-app-onto-your-android-phone-or-tablet.html The basic method is: Download an APK file, save it to a USB flash drive, connect the flash drive to the stereo (there's two USB cables that hang off the stereo you can plug the drive into), go to your Android settings on the device and change security to allow software from unknown sources, browse to the apk file using a file browsing app and open the apk to install it. I just used the Play Store to install it. If you dont have that you’ll have to download an apk. Theres several apk mirror sites but I couldn’t tell you which one is best or trustworthy.

This radio is terrible, nothing works properly, I have a 2014 ram 1500 limited and the steering wheel programming suck , the volume lower button increases the volume and volume up lowers the volume, clock on my dash has been stuck on military time since install and won’t change, temperature stays on 61 degrees no matter what the outside temperature is , worst purchase ever and they send me an update to fix that says ford , when I explain I clearly have a ram . Don’t get one , also the tech support people get upset each time I reach for assistance via WhatsApp
