Thank you for the video. Very helpful. Just finished changing the filter. One important piece of information: Fill the new filter with diesel before installing it, otherwise the car will start on the first try because it still has some leftover diesel in the pipes but after 10 seconds the motor will turn itself off.

Yes, you right. I have a 2.2l mondeo 2008 with the same engine. I have changed filter yesterday and after 10-20 seconds engine stop. Now I google it to see how to prime all diesel lines. I have fitted a hand pump on return line and sucked all air from fuel filter until diesel come clear without bubbles but car still not starting. Probably air from pump to injectors? Hmmm

Love this channel and all the help you’ve given me over the years. However, please god put a comment in this video about filling the filter so that no one else has a day like mine trying to get there freelander to start...

Good old British way....have a cuppa tea and think about it - sure they did this whilst building a Spitfire! :) Ford S Max 2.2 TDCI owner here and me Dad owns the Land Rover F2 - similar engine (although we noticed oil filters are in differing places - this underneath - not great for doing on the driveway :/) - changed air filter/cabin filter - bought an oil extractor and new fuel filter and found this fantastic how to! Thank you. Helps a lot to have someone show you rather than having to buy a Haynes manual and finding out for £13. Never changed a fuel filter and won't pay a stealer ever again having had bad experiences....not doing work or damaging car.

my feelander 2 has just gone in because the engine management light came on. I suspect the fuel filter needs changing, so when I get the bill, if it's the filter, i'll know, thanks to you, exactly what was done. Many thanks.

Did you need to prime the system or bleed it or do anything or than fit the filter? Ford S Max 2.2 TDCI 2008 here too...begrudge paying a stealer to do a full service and not know if they did it properly so bought all the filters/oil from Euro Car Parts and decided to DIY. I've seen people on forums indicate bleeding it etc and no hand pump on hose like on Peugeots etc ? Thanks for any help/replies!
@richwebb84243 жыл бұрын
The blanking plugs on the new filter are to be used on the pipes when you take them off and then vacuum pump from return or even suck on a pipe that you can fit on the return to fill filter and thus making it good to go.

I’ve got quite a lot of help from you guys, but please please please amend this video. If you crank the engine before filling or priming the filter you’ll need to bleed the injectors. Either fill the filter with derv before you fit or suck some fuel through with some 8mm pipe.
@duckhunter8203 Жыл бұрын
Good video, but yes recommend to bleed threw with a hand pump or brake fluid bleeding machine if you have a compressor. Or start up and hold revs at 3.000rpm for about 10 seconds and I guarantee it will fill it up without cutting out every time 👍🏻👍🏻

The better way is to fill diesel fuel into the filter before connecting inlet pipes and starting the engine. Because air in the filter could damage diesel nozzles.

most likely the air will go back to the tank vier the return

Mine came up with 'HDC fault' on display and wouldn't start. So either wouldn't self prime or a different issue?
@L663 Жыл бұрын
This is "hill decesent control" issue - try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after 10 mins - this may reset some things - other than that you need to get a fault code reader - it could be somehing odd like the brake pedal switch !
@grinchjones95973 жыл бұрын
!!! READ THIS FIRST !!! System must be primed before use. This video falls short and the follow on fix it video is a bodge. So what do need to do? Simple. Fit it as shown. DO NOT START. Using a primer bulb, or manually, prime the system from the RETURN side. That way you fill the diesel pump as well and none of the ridiculous injector bleeding they do on the follow up video. To do this remove the red clip to the left of the arrow. Fit a primer bulb and suck until you get diesel out. Refit. Start car. Easy. You can suck manually if you have strong lungs. It’s slow but it works. Take care not to ingest diesel of course. You can see the fuel coming down the pipes, so I didn’t get a mouth full of diesel doing this.

Thanks for the comment. Sadly I didn't see it on time and nievely thought the pump would fill it with just ignition on. I've done your suggestion but still doesn't start. Am I going to have to loosen injectors since I did attempt some starts before seeing your comment? Or just keep pumping through red connector and in the end that will get all the air out?

This is very helpful for self repair. However, I wonder about air problem. Basically, some filers have pump for making no air. but this filter look that it doesn't have. Someone told, put some air to fuel tank with compressor something. of course you have to seal the hole except air hose. but I wonder it can work, and I can't check easily. Or As Mr. Nikiforoff said, connect 2 lines, and you put the diesel with syringe as you put as you can. but it is not perfect method anyway. It can be hardly full-filled.

Information given on this video is in correct... and should be removed. Clearly the two in the video haven't got a clue what there at and the video removed. Bleeding the vehicle in this manner can do untold damage.
@erickeith11545 жыл бұрын
High pressure injection and the twat opens the injector pipes......obviously knows feck all about common rail diesels, no one in their right mind would open one and start the engine. Pressure in a common rail can be as high as 1500 bar, that will go right through the skin even if wearing a latex glove, this video should be removed immediately.

Guys this is not self priming. You need to prime the filter, or suck on return pipe otherwise it won't start. I watched this video, did it your way and now it's airlocked and I have to wait for mechanic to do it. I think you are doing more harm then good with this incomplete video.
