Thanks for the video. Nice job. Note that this applies only to the 3.2 engine. The 2.7 takes a standard type oil filter located on the bottom next to the drain plug.

Chapter 6 page 5 of the 2009 SantaFe owners manual provides a chart showing recommended oil to be 5w-20, or 5w-30, or 10w-30. The first two being preferred for good fuel economy. As for oil quantity (when also replacing the filter) -- the 2.7L engine requires 4.75Quarts, the 3.3L engine requires 5.49Quarts (chapter 9 page 4).

He does says at the end how much you need in this 3.3 engine. But you need to BUY 6 quarts because they don’t have 5.5 quarts bottles to sell

I haven't performed oil changes in quite some time, but I do have the tools, and I see no sense in paying the service station for a task that requires only supplies and 30 minutes of my time. Nice job, man - - very nice presentation. You keep it short, direct, and enjoyable.

Thanks for this video! It was very helpful. I just changed my oil myself for the first time. Now that I have all the tools needed, it's going to save a lot of money in the future! As usual, the auto shops had overtightened everything, but I eventually got everything loose.

Nice video. Really well presented. Oil numbers are on the cap. Stick to that. Thicker oil can cause issues as the tolerances and oil galleys are easily plugged. Change oil regularly and don't have an engine flush on an older vehicle with higher mileage. Chances are good you'll free up some sludge and block those passages as well as introduce particles to bearings and seals. Ask Scotty Kilmer.

Really appreciate the video. The engine cover on my mum's (what a coincidence!) '09 santa fe was pretty much the same, but only four bolts on the corners. The dealership offered us free oil changes for a bit; as usual, they overtorqued the hell out of everything; I had to smash out my entire body weight on the oil filter plastic cover; it's marked for 25 N/m (19 ft-lbs) but was easily 50+ ft-lbs. Also had to use a breaker bar on the drain plug. Great tutorial. Thanks again!

There are two different engines on the Santa Fe. The first thing the video should address is how to determine the engine because the filters are different.

Gonna try this with my 08 v6 santa fe. Its videos like these that give you confidence in doing it yourself. No more going to the dealer and getting ripped off. BTW, i heard you can use 5w-30 motor oil in the v6 as its also compatible; Its a little bit ticker.

Hyundai has a special service tool for removing the oil filter cap. It is a 88.2mm, 15 flute, filter cap socket which attaches to a ratchet wrench. Hyundai part #09263-3C100. NAPA Auto parts has this tool as well. NAPA part #SER 773868. I bought one at NAPA for $6.75 here in the USA. As an engineer who has gotten more than 200,000 miles on five cars and one truck (doing all my own maintenance), I agree that 5W-20 oil should be used in this car as recommended by Hyundai (not 5W-30 or 10W-30). Consider spending a couple of extra dollars on a synthetic blend oil (if not a full synthetic oil) if you intend to keep the car a long time as I do.

Okay, I just did this on my 2007 Limited and wanted to add my 2 cents. First as noted here, there are 4 nuts and 2 bolts holding down the engine cover. Another video erroneously said there were just the 4 corner nuts. Also, the engine is at a tilt with the back higher than the front so the nuts studs ARE NOT PERPENDICULAR to the ground. Especially on the back two, you'll need to angle your wrench extension toward the front of the vehicle or you will round the nuts. Mine were rounded somewhat and only professional mechanics have touched it, so even they made this mistake. Second, you WILL need a filter wrench for the filter cover, and the universal strap or chain types are hard to use because you don't have much room around the filter for the handle to swing around. I used one of those and cut my hand and arm. I would strongly recommend the cap socket type that you can put on the end of a socket wrench. Not only does it give you all the room in the world to work with, if you have a toque wrench you can put the correct amount of torque on when putting the cap back on. The correct torque is 25 newton-meters, and that is written on the cap. I don't normally worry about torques when changing oil, but when you are working with a fragile plastic cap and an oil seal, you've got a narrow range between not sealed and broken cap. Finally, my local Hyundai dealer parts department never heard of the part number quoted below, NAPA said they could order theirs from their warehouse, but I would just order one off Amazon if it were me. You just need to plan ahead.

Every cartridge filter I’ve ever installed comes with the o rings, so if you don’t have them, someone probably opened it up and took them. They’re usually in a heat sealed plastic baggie

hey I got a question for you. The CD player in my 2005 hyundai tuscon has lost functionality on its cd eject button, so when I press the button , it makes a noise like the cd is going to come out, but the cd doesnt. I can take the cd out by pressing the button and then inserting another cd at an angle so that the cd that is inside the player comes out. Any ideas on how I can fix the CD eject button. It seems that a spring or something somewhere is loose in the eject mechanism. Help please

You will not blow up the engine if you run 5 or 10/30 oil lol... If you put 15/40 or higher, you will have oil pressure issues, 20/50 or higher will definitely starve your engine. I know a lot of people who run one grade higher than recommended, I don't "recommend it" personally, but it will not "blow up" your engine!

There's 2 main types of oil for domestic and asian import vehicles nowadays, 5W30 and 5W20. Make sure you're 100% sure before you go for it. If you can't get the drain plug loose, try a longer ratchet or wrench, it'll give you a bit more leverage.

when changing the filter on 08 SantaFe. The cup does not retain the oil it leaks out back down in to the pan. I have changed the filter. stem and o rings 3 times still leaks after driving then park for 30 min. Is there a check valve to keep the cup full of oil? please reply.

Good vid. A couple of things: 1} Hyundai rhymes with Sunday. Replace the "S" in Sunday with an "H" and you will be saying the name correctly. 2} The 4 cylinder 2.4L engine in the Santa Fe is not like this and is the more typical version with the filter under the engine with a nice little cutout in the plastic guard under the car for easy replacement. And, the plastic engine cover on the 4 cylinder just snaps on. There aren't any fasteners. The 6 cylinder kind of looks like a pain... But the Santa Fe is awesome because you can change the oil without jacking up the car! Love that.

+Robert Cowan Hey, Robert......glad you did the "Hunday/Sunday" thing; saved me the trouble. You'd think MOST people would be thankful you taught them how to save their tongues from all that twisting......but most just think we don't know what we're talking about. Ha! Jokes on them. I've never actually understood why Hyundai didn't spend a couple of million in TV advertising teaching prospective buyers how to pronounce the name of their brand; they might have accidentally sold a few cars along the way! :-)

I don't know if I'll be able to make that video, I'm looking at getting rid of it because it's been a complete lemon, I've had the transmission replaced once, the timing cover, alternator, driveshaft coupling, front diff seal, and the throttle body replaced. I've completely had it and I'm tired of dealing with it to be completely honest.

10w-30 is a bit heavy. I always go heavier after 100K miles. In this case, I switched to 5w-30 on my 2009 Santa Fe 2.7 GLS. And that's only to prevent leaks on older gaskets.

I had never changed my own oil due to being unable to locate the oil filter. under the engine cover....duh. I needed to locate the oil pressure switch and was told it was on the oil filter housing. found it today. The replacement is not difficult except for starting the thread on the switch you are installing. I had lots of trouble lining it up until i remembered and old trick. I put a piece of soft tubing on the top of the switch and used the tubing to hold the switch. bingo success. My wife was standing there going "He's so damned clever". I just smiled and looked clever.....if thats a look...

Never understood the logic of getting the engine warm for an oil change. The engine was warm when you last parked it, why would you want to circulate all that dirty oil thats already sitting in the sump waiting to be dumped?
