How to change the filter on BEAM central vacuum system

Ohh my God, I know this video is three years old as I type this but you are a lifesaver! Seriously, like most guys of course I thought well I'll figure this out, what could possibly be so hard about it? And sure enough, I removed the filter easily because the tab was a good clue and it folded the ring in for removal. Putting it back though?, I must have struggled for 45 minutes until finally I threw in the towel and searched for an answer, fortunately, I found your video very quickly. This is definitely one of those situations where it is easy "when you know how". After watching your instructions I returned to it and restored the filter within a minute. Maybe next time I'm having trouble with something I won't be so damned stubborn and I'll search for the answer on youtube.

Thank you for this video! I have an old Beam that came with the house 22+ years ago. It's in the workshop now and was working but not well. I Pulled the filter out, brushed it off and shook it out, then put it back. I'm amazed at the change. The vacuum is working fantastic!

I changed mine. It was very difficult to take the filter out and now putting it in the filter doesn't seem to want to fit in the groove for it any more. My hoover now seems to have very little suction. Are these two problems related?

I’m doing something wrong. I pinched the new filter to install but when I get around to the front, there’s still a “pooch” in the ring that won’t snap into the channel. I thought the new filter might be too big so I tried to reinstall the OEM filter with same outcome. Frustrating to watch the pro do this in under a minute and I’ve been at it all afternoon.

@@andrearuffino Yes. I reinstalled the OEM after cleaning it as best I could. Returned the knockoff to Amazon. I think it was slightly out of specs. I guess I was doing something wrong the first time I tried to reinstall the OEM, the second time it snapped in on the first try just like the guy in the video.

Thanks. I also solved it. At first, I was trying to install it at the indent at the very bottom. When I realized it had to go into the groove about 8 inches up, it went in very easily on the first try.

@@andrearuffino I was in the right groove but I’m convinced that the knockoff was slightly bigger and that’s why it wouldn’t seat properly. It had the correct part number etc. and looked identical but was not a genuine part. Lesson learned.

Well, who would have known that? Guess that is why the installer leaves the instruction manual with the user. Naturally they don't say to check the filter and in my case, removing the bucket to empty, a lot of d use and debris would also fall out. Finally got tired of that when the motor burned out and just replaced with another brand - Titan. we shall see how that goes. They did leave an extra filter, a completely different cartridge filter and said to change it in a year - of normal usage.

That has happened to me too. Try to get a flat screwdriver in between the filter and tank and pry it to break the seal and pull it out.

usually the tab is located at the very back of the unit close to the wall, but if the filter was replaced at some point it might be in a different location or it may have been tucked up behind the metal seal. If the filter got but in upside down then the tab will not be visible and you may need to take a flat blade screwdriver and try to pry the filter loose.
