After our Honda starting making a weird noise when starting, I decided to change the starter. It solved the issue, and now it is back on the road.

This tutorial saved me a trip to the mechanic! Thanks for posting! It’s true that it takes a bit of finesse to remove the bottom screw. I bought a remanufactured starter and I was able to get it all done in about 4 hours. My odyssey started right up!

I have had a screeching sound on cold start up for the last 5-7 years on my 2011 Odyssey. It can't be the power steering pump so I assume it is the starter drive overspinning (i.e doesn't detract fast enough from the flywheel). I hope it isn't wrecking my flywheel because it still starts my car. And it only makes noise in cold weather.

@@essunset6 LOL. I haven't checked my starter yet. But it does it almost every time I start it these days with temperatures well below zero.

You didn't mention using thread locker on the starter bolts, should I use it?

PIA better to pay someone to do ! The battery tray is a problem then the lower starter bolt needs a breaker bar and no room to use the bolts are very thight from the factory same set up as a ford edge

How much do you think the replacement would cost having to pay someone to do it? It looks like it takes several hours of labor.
