Today, I will be changing the transmission fluid on an Alfa Romeo Giulia. This application can be performed many other ZF8HP transmissions. (BMW, Fiat/Chrysler, and many more)

Great question! I added 5 quarts total. Quite a bit of fluid ran out at 5 quarts from fill hole before I added the fill plug. The amount added may vary. 6-7 quarts for the project should be safe. Thanks for watching!

Great questions! For the wheel cradles, sadly, I built them before I started filming my diy’s. I used a bunch of scrap 2x4’s and cut 9, 20inch pieces and 11, 12inch pieces. Then I stacked them like Jenga and secured them together with deck screws. This will make one wheel cradle. You will want to make 4. My Giulia has 68k miles on it, and the trans fluid has never been changed would you recommend changing it at this point?

Some dudes with bmws do it at 60 & 120k miles and say they are happy. The zf8 is in alot of stuff

If you aren’t experiencing any slippage or shudder from the torque converter clutch, 68k miles should be fine. If you wanted to be safe, drain your old fluid into a clean drain pan. Just in case you needed to add some old fluid back. I did this when I changed the fluid in a BMW 328i with the GM automatic transmission. Luckily, it ran great after the change, but it was just a precaution. Thanks for watching!

Do you remember where you bought the tran pan and the hose?

For the pan, I got the part number by emailing ZF directly and posted it in the description. I found a new pan on eBay. Make sure the pan includes the bolts and fill plug. As for the fluid pump, I randomly picked one on Amazon. You will notice in the video, it didn’t quite fit, but I was able to make it work. Thanks for watching!
