How to "change to GP shift"

This is a "How to" video on changing your standard shift pattern to GP shift. Basically changing the shift pattern from 1 down 5 up.... to 1 up and 5 down. This is a completely free mod, and works on most bikes. I promise you will be happy with the outcome. This doesnt work on all bikes, you need to be sure you have enough room to flip the linkage 180 degrees. If you dont have the room . this wont work

One of the first things i did on my first bike. After i got my license my instructor told me "Try GP Shift, and get Crash Bar / Slide Frames for your firt bike."

Put the bolt back in from the underside as it is intended to be.The bolt needs to be from the bottom to get the lever to squeeze it onto the splines as intended. This can eventually get loose on the splines over time and could skip, wear on the splines and damage the splines.

Good video. I never realised we called this motoGP shifter. Fact is, we always had this type of shifter on our motocyle. Only in recent years that those: one down and 4 ups came. That why I was searching to lean about the difference. Given generally are have shorter foot, GP makes is more comfortable and efficient. But I do not think we could tune our shifter to gp or atleast without professional help. We are talking about expensive 125 cc commercial bikes in Asian countries that the world does not even know about. You know those motocycle you see in documentaries in India and other Asian countries... Thus, I do not understand people's logic about not using GPshifting. For us it is still factory default for < 100cc motocycle. Just goes to show how people think their culture is the Golden Rule that the whole work should apply...

All our bikes out here are 1 down and 5 up.. fo me, it doesn't make sense. So we change ours. I like it much better, and for the track it is more convenient.. I've heard you guys have really nice bikes.

@@MayhemStreetbikes since i am used to have a manual motorcycle, the one that you dont need a clutch lever to shift gear, its always down for changing to higher gear and up for changing to lower gears, because of that gp shifting is kinda easier for me. Sorry bad english

Without a quickshifter I like gp shift because when shifting your hand and foot are going in the same direction. Much smoother.

Always first thing I do on a gixxer is change to gp shift I will never go back to d1 u5 #u1d54ever and bolt should be in from bottom -top cause where the threads are and make sure it's torqued to spec don't want tht coming loose. Happened to a friend's bike and came loose & wasn't good in short rin. thts all I'll say

"Stick to standard set up pal changing gears in corners is plain dumb and useless", oh jeez. Such intelligence ... I would even prefer this kind of shifting over the regular one. My Honda CBR650F (naked) has a quite short shift-to-peg gap, and it is hard to shift more than once in a row without having to bend your feet way down/back, so the shifter completes and gets into stock position further ado. This kind of "down for higher gear"-principle makes more sense imo, if you are having big feets / mentioned small gap.

I purchased a bike like this and want it back to standard just due to the fact when I’m in first it’s hard for me to get it to neutral I go from first to second since I’m hitting down but is there any tutorial or way u can tell me how to get it back to standerd or perhaps maybe redo my gears better

Some bikes just have a smaller gap between 1st and 2nd and it is harder to find N. Maybe it is just a matter of getting used to this bike and not so much to do with the pattern direction? How are you fairing now, 4 months later?

If you struggling to get to neutral… try when you on first gear, let go clutch lever a little bit let your bike move a little, then you can shift to neutral easily

@@MayhemStreetbikes I think he means that if you are already familiar with standard 1 down 5 up shifting, to then try and learn 1 up 5 down, you might change down instead of up at 75mph, ie. from 5th to 4th instead of 5th to 6th gear at 75mph. It ain't gonna stop me though haha

Somebody did this to the GSX-S1000 I just bought shit drove me crazy riding it home I am immediately changing it back to normal like a real bike. It’s ok but not for me I need the G force to help me upshift not down shift that’s easy! I’m on a torque ass liter bike trying to pull me off it and having to push the shifter down instead of the natural up I’m used to and gravity works with it’s just dumb. Now if you wanted to drag the pegs sure but I ain’t risking my $10k bike to get lower to the ground to actually need GP shifting so it’s actually bad on my bike it’s more of a nimble drag bike if anything!
