I'm a moron that rushed a DIY oil change and ended up with a panful of transmission fluid (that drain plug sure was stuck!). Never dealt with transmissions before, so thanks for posting, and your attention to detail-- now I have some clue about how to fix this mess.

OK, my Sienna, 2006, may need to do a partial change, do I just do I quart at a time, drive a few days, then again, until I have 4 new quarts in, then drive a week or so, then do a full transmission change?
@JM-AUTO2 жыл бұрын
if the transmission fluid is too old and black yes, to avoid damage to the tranny, it does not take the full 4 quarts, thanks for visiting my channel.

On the photo inserted where it says dry fill is 9.3 quarts, the drain and refill is only 3.7 [on the 2 Wheel Dr.] Is that because we’re not draining and refilling all of the fluid? I was told I should not do all of the fluid only a quart or two since it has not been serviced in a while. Is that why the drain and refill is so much less than the dry fill? Or should I still only stick to replacing a quart?
@JM-AUTO4 ай бұрын
drain n refill is 3.7 qts if this is the case, don't replace any other amount of fluid other than this, except if the fluid is too old (black or burned) then take out one qt only n replace it that qt with new fluid n drive the vehicle one or two days n take out another qt n replace it with new fluid n drive again n finaly take out the rest n do the transmission fluid chage. this is done this way because if the fluid is too black you taking the risk of damaging the tranny because it might slip after the fluid change if you do it all at once so do it little by little if this is the case. I explain this on this video thanks for sharing

Thank you very much my friend. I apprecite you sharing this with us. I have a 2004 toyota sienna .. what did you mean by not changing the transmission fluid all at once ? my van's transmission fluid is kind of dirty and very dark.. how do I flush it on my own? I would like to get all the fluid out of the van, then strain it using a piece of fabric and then put it back ... would you recommend doing so ?
@JM-AUTO Жыл бұрын
If it is too dark or black, I recommend you to change it in 2 or 3 parts, you have to drive your van in between every time you get some fluid out of there so that way you minimize the risk of your tranny to slip after changing the fluid.

@@JM-AUTO Thank you very much my friend. but honestly .. I dont understand what you mean by 2 or 3 parts! please explain ... I appreciate it man .. very much.

@@JM-AUTO I forgot to mention .. yes .. the transmission fluid is very dark .. actually BLACK and has dirt and paricles in it :(
@JM-AUTO Жыл бұрын
when transmission fluid is too old, black, dark, there is always a chance for the transmission to slip after changing the fluid and that is why it should be changed little by little, take out some and put in to replace what you just took out and drive the car and few days later take more fluid again and after 3 times do a complete fluid change so the tranny most likely is not going to slip.

what tranny change frequency change would you recommend? by mileage, by time? Great detailed video and recommendations. I change the regular oil every 6 months regardless of mileage. should i do the same with the tranny? i do it myself since it is pretty straightforward. thank you.
@JM-AUTO Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for visiting this channel, every 30k miles because if fluid is changed when it is to black then the tranny might slip after changing it.
@kleangato Жыл бұрын
@@JM-AUTO thanks for the reply. Is there any harm more frequent? every six months? Since i am changing the motor oil, i might as well do a drain and fill on the tranny. Also, where did you get that small funnel. does it have a specific name? Thanks again. Your instructions are awesome.
