Thanks for all your help, I just switched out the Chinese tubes. JJ’s for power, Genelex Gold in V1, Tung-Sol in V2. Made my tubemeister 18 come to life and put me back in the game! FANTASTIC SOUND.

Thanks for the great video man! I was able to follow right along and easily replaced tubes ( been playing for 20 years and this is the first time I’ve ever replaced tubes, finally found an amp I love everything about!)

This may have been posted before but, if your amp is still under warranty, you should NEVER REMOVE the two BOTTOM screws on each handle all the way with all of the H&K amps of this format! They have anti-tamper fittings on those bottom two screws which are broken when the screw is removed. On a new amp that will invalidate your warranty with H&K. If you have an amp out of warranty it doesn't matter of course but it's still worth knowing. You should only unscrew them a couple of turns to allow the end cheeks to fall outwards far enough for the cover to be taken off.

I have the combo version of this amp. I tried a few kinds of pre and power amp tubes and my favorite is the el84m. It's like the military grade el84. Gives a little more volume and headroom and is a bigger sound I think.

When your changing tubes would'nt number 1 be pull the power cord out prior to doing anything?

Great video! Well done and kept it simple. Love the H&K amps, too. I'm changing the preamp tube in V1 to a Wathan audio 12axt cryotone. Thanks again

+williamthomaspenn thanks man. Glad you enjoyed it. They are very simple to change tubes on for sure.

I'd recommend an additional step when replacing your tubes. Take one of the old tubes and wipe on some Deoxit D5 on all of the tube pins. Then insert and remove the tube 5 or 6 times to clean the tube sockets. I actually use WD-40 first when I clean the tube sockets and follow the procedure again with the Deoxit. Do NOT spray the WD-40 or the Deoxit directly into the tube socket! Many folks don't like to use the WD-40 as it can leave residue in the sockets, that's why I follow up with the Deoxit afterwards.

Brilliant Video! Thank You very much. I hope I won't need to change my tubes on my new H and K Tubemeister deluxe 20, but it's so good to know how I am going to do it if and when the time comes. Do You happen to know (or does anyone else reading this know) if there are any tubes that I could upgrade to that would make my Amplifier sound even better? Thanks in advance. God Bless You

Hi,does 6L6 tube fits as well in this amp?

Hi George. I believe that 6L6 tubes will work from what I’ve researched.

Hello there I just purchased this amp. My question is as far the self bias system how does that work? Is it as simple as replace the tubes and power it on? Im thinking about replacing the stock tubes. Thanks
@ontherecord42537 жыл бұрын
Steve Lannom hi Steve. That’s exactly how it how it works. I buy biased pairs anyway but it’s not necessary with this amp.

That amplifier looks a lot like my Hughes & Kettner TubeMiester 18 and it was my first Hughes & Kettner.

Hey good video. I have one question. I own this amp and really like it but I have one problem. My clean channel distorts a little, it's especially noticeable when I play harder or few notes at once. So did you have the same problem with the stock tubes on? I already changed pre amp tubes to EHX 12ax7 and it isn't as bad but still present. I fought this was a power or cable problem from my pedalboard although it's the same without any pedals but I found a video where somebody changed all the tubes and this problem dissapeared: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6iooqGKl5iNock you can hear that the clean channel on stock tubes has some noise/distortion going on in the background. 2:06 minute mark.

Isn’t necessary to recalibrate the bias?
@iancurrie884411 ай бұрын
Depends on that amp. this one does it automatically and continuously. There's also a switch you can press in with your pick and it will tell you the status of the tubes.

Did your blue light go out when powered up ?
@ontherecord42536 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron. No. The blue light is simply an LED projected onto the etched plexiglass.

I was told you can't touch the new tubes because of oil on your hands could mess them up.

Thank you for this video... hey, can I pass something by you just incase you might have an idea as to my problem? My TubeMeister18 does not STANDBY. Also, the TSC indicates there is a problem with one of my tubes but shouldn't my standby still work? My amp still sounds awesome haha but one of the LED lights stays on indicating an issue. STANDBY does not turn both TSC LED lights on and does not mute the sound... can that be fixed by replacing the tube/s or does it sound like something else is going on? I did a video on it here: facebook.com/normweichel/videos/o.109175002438793/10155252079353039/?type=2&theater

you should tell people that taking the sides of anp will break the seal and will invalidates your waranty you dont need to undo all the screws right out just loosen 3 of them there is a video on this on you tube

I think u'r not supose to touch the tubes with your dirty finger bro...
@ontherecord42536 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ian. While there certainly isn’t any harm in wearing gloves, it’s actually a myth that vacuum tubes can be harmed by touching them with bare hands.
@juliansedor71014 жыл бұрын
It is good practice to use a cloth or gloves to prevent oils from getting on the tubes, but it most likely wont really damage them.
