Note that on some bikes (Mine for example, GSX-R 600 K6 and the 750's are the same thing, they're both notoriously nasty to bleed air) it is a good idea to tilt the bike left and right while changing coolant to release trapped air.

At 3:35 you gave me the answer, I can't find the definitive answer on where the coolant drain plug is located, I think it is one of the screws beneath the water pump but it won't beige. So since I'm not sure it's the correct one anyway I was contemplating using the bottom hose, so I was relieved to see a professional use that technique. My reason for doing this is I have a new 2017 that probably sitting around for 3 years and now overheating. Idle for 20 minutes reaches 239 f causing a H20 fault, cools down with fan in 4 minutes to 200 when fan cuts off, and 2 minutes to 189f . Just started at about 750 miles of total mileage on bike. This kinda sorta explains why my 05 zx6r keeps barfing coolant when I shut it down after riding. Coolant drains from something, drips on the lower fairing, then onto the street. I think the overflow line may be disconnected at the reservoir. I have to pull the tank off to see. I did a header swap from an 03/04 zx6r to get rid of the undertail, and changed the coolant since I already had the radiator drained to get the headers off. The bike runs hotter now (227-ish standing, 207-ish when moving) and the stock fan seems to barely keep the bike cool when sitting. Would adding a second cooling fan, and switching from 50/50 mix be the right way to go? And does the coolant barfing happen all of the time? I've never seen it do that before.
@sportbiketrackgear4 жыл бұрын
You should not have to add a second fan. Double check your work to see if you have some coolant leaking you need to sort that out. For coolant you should get a good result from a 50/50 anitfreeze mix or this product as long as you have all of the air out of the system. - Van
@DaBronXMarksDaSpot4 жыл бұрын
@@sportbiketrackgear I rechecked all the hose connections with the factory manual, and discovered that I had the thermostat return and the overflow hoses connected in the wrong places. The thermo return was being hindered by the radiator cap, which gave incorrect readings, and the excess coolant had overfilled the reservoir when stuff was cooling off. Average temp now is 215-ish, topping at 225 for a short time after hard riding. We're "cash money" now. This is the second time one your videos has come in handy. Thanks again.

Why wouldn't you want to dilute it a little more if you're short? (Even with distilled water)
@sportbiketrackgear6 жыл бұрын
This comes premixed and works best if it not diluted. When you dilute this it reduces the freeze protection, lubrication and temperature management properties. Best practice is to use this at full strength. - Brian Van

Other than not being slippery does this coolant keep the bike cooler than the green stuff? I have a Yamaha r6 and it loves to get hot would this help keep it cooler
@yteka996 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you a specific number but I found in my 09 R1 the fans don't kick on as much so I'd say yes.
@sportbiketrackgear6 жыл бұрын
Engine Ice claims it can reduce operating temps as much as 50 degrees F. We typically see a reasonable reduction in operating temps on the bikes, really varies from bike to bike as the cooling systems are all a little different. End of the day this is not very expensive and you should change your coolant every 2 years. With the R6 make sure you bleed the cooling system well. This bike has a cooling system drain like the Yamaha R3 we just shot a coolant change video does. Use that to drain the system and help bleed all the air out before you ride. Here is a link to that video: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/engine-ice-hi-performance-coolant/#pv__tabs - Brian Van

If you need to change it you can flush it out with tap water then replace with new Engine Ice. No need to flush with distilled water IMO. - Brian Van

@sportbiketrackgear4 жыл бұрын
If you plan to ride on the track most orgs require you to remove the OEM glycol based coolant. For a street bike you should replace the coolant every couple of years or whatever the manufacturer recommends. If it stays in there too long it can cause build up in the cooling system and reduce efficiency. - Van

Totally agree with van, document yours and see if it changes. Mine was operating at 170 ish on a 70 to 85 degree day on the freeway. After I put engine ice, I've recorded 161, as low as 159 on the same temp range days. My fans also kick on at 220, but only once have they kicked on in 2 months. I ride pretty casual, commuting at a reasonable mph in the AM :), and between 50 to 80 in the afternoon depending on LA traffic. I do ride her pretty hard in the canyons, and haven't noticed a change in these temp ranges. Anyway, that's my particular experience, let us know how yours does.

To clean the inside out you typically just need to flush it with clean water. This is assuming the inside of the radiator is not full of sediment etc... As for the outside you can hose it down and use a blow gun to help remove debris. - Van
