What oil change interval do you recommend for 05 Acura MDX? Every 4,000 or 5,000? The vehicle has 150,000 miles on odo

Modern oils are pretty good and can go a long time before shearing starts to take place. I don't know the recommended service intervals on that car (should be in the manual), however, I tend to change my oil more frequently to preserve engine life. I would probably do it around 3500 to 4K miles myself.

Not at the moment. I've not had that error code on my MDX. However, I've done that job on my truck and my daughter's car. Another easy job. The O2 sensors are typically on the intake or exhaust system. Usually somewhere around a 17mm to 22mm wrench to pulll the sensor and replace. It should be an easy job.

Good information. I like to pre-fill my new filter before installing it so that the oil pressure builds up faster after starting the engine the first time. It would also have been helpful if you had explained how to reset the service reminder.

I have a 2018 MDX and the hardest part of the job is replacing the oil filter. It is situated in an inverted position directly above the lower control arm. The end cap removal tool is the best way to remove it, but cannot be pulled off the filter once partially unscrewed, as the lower control arm minimizes clearance. So I use the cap tool to loosen and tighten, and remove by hand. I remove the old filter and replace it while on the ground, then drive it up on ramps to change the pan oil. Unfortunately, that refills the new oil filter with old oil; but accessing the oil filter when the car is up on ramps is quite difficult. That puts about 0.5 to 0.7 quart of used oil back into circulation. This oil filter position design is poor for an item that requires maintenance, but may have been intended to shied the filter from road debris damage.

Thank you for your videos they really help a lot. I just have a question, my 2015 MDX has 120000 + miles on it what oil do you recommend? I’m planning on also changing the transmission oil. My MDX has been shifting hard on second gear so hopefully that fixes the problem. I will appreciate any tips you can give me thank you.

Sorry I missed your comment. Everyone has their own brand of oil they like. I generally use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles. It resists shearing pretty well and protects the motor. For transmission, you are best to stick with the Honda/Acura fluids. I do have another video on how to do the transmission fluid on the MDX if you haven't seen it.

@@richone10 after changing the wipers (x3), hood strut (no bundle of joy either w/15yo clips), head lamp and recharging a/c I brought it in for the oil after figuring that out so, it worked. 🙄
