I love how simple and straightforward your tutorials are! This helped me even more than the official Google help page.

Is It Possible To Change Your Password Back To A Previous One? I Changed It A Couple Months Ago But Need To Change It Back To The Previous One.
@techtimewithtimmy Жыл бұрын
I'm not actually sure. There's no button that will automatically revert it to a previous password, but you could try resetting the password and just type the old one in. Sometimes websites have restrictions on re-using old passwords, I'm not sure if Google does or not because I've never tried it myself, but there would be no harm in trying.

What about local data getting lost? (It happened to me once, I made more progress on my new thing, I don’t want it to happen again)
@techtimewithtimmy6 ай бұрын
Assuming you know your old password, you will need to enter it as shown at 5:29 in this video, and that will allow you to keep all your local data. Unfortunately if you don't remember your old password, there's nothing you can do, but as long as you know your old password, and enter it when prompted, you won't lose anything.

I'm having an issue getting the "Sign-in error" notification to pop up on my Dell Chromebook. It's an older model, and it doesn't want to register that I've changed my password. I even tried signing out of my Chromebook and signing back into it with my old password, shutting it down completely, and turning it back on. My Chromebook doesn't seem to realize that I've changed my password twice. I'm stuck using the old password that I originally had on it. I even tried to get help on the Google help page and was unsuccessful. I don't know what to do. Also, I can sign into my Google account with the new password, however, I cannot sign into my Chromebook with the new password because it won't register the change properly. Is there another way to get a Chromebook to register a new password in the vent that the "sign-in error" notification doesn't pop up?

Sorry, but I've never seen that happen before, and I don't know any way to get around it other than to powerwash (factory reset) the Chromebook, which is a fairly long process as you would need to backup and restore everything.

I've been locked out of my Chromebook for two years because I forgot the password, so you are saying I just put in my google email that will sign me in?

Oh, yeah, I don't remember the password, I want to not lose mt saved things, hmm...
@techtimewithtimmy2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, there's no way to access the files saved to the Chromebook without the password, it's all encrypted and can't be unencrypted without it. Even resetting the password doesn't help with that because you still have to enter the original password to access your data. Are you sure you don't know the password and don't have it saved anywhere? It's the same one you'd use to sign in to any Google website on any computer.

I tried this ... no notification that password was changed? So now I need to wait for some RANDOM time frame for this change to take effect? What happened to the simple days when changing a password was just that a simple change?
@techtimewithtimmy2 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree, it would have made things easier if your Chromebook password didn't have to be linked to your Google Account password like this. (Or at least if changing it worked reliably and properly). Microsoft kind of does the same thing now, forcing your Windows computer password to be your Microsoft password. I really don't know why they do this.
