A quick tutorial on how to change your belt on a 2005-2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7L V8 engine. The only tool needed is a 15mm wrench.

Yeah your last line said it perfectly “never pay anyone to do this job”, most mechanics would probably charge $100+, if not even more than that, for such a quick job. My 4.7 even has a diagram under the hood showing how belt fits. Just wanted to see exactly how & this video showed it perfectly. Your 4.7 sure is looking nice and new, mine just looks like a pile of dirt and rust, but still runs perfectly with 250,000km and never left me stranded once, great, reliable motors that’ll run forever

You showed the way… PERFECT!! My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo just turned 100,00 miles. So the time was right to renew the belt. I purchased a DAYCO Poly Rib belt at Advance Auto for $28.00. I used a 1/2-inch drive breaker bar with the suggested 15mm socket & the job went smoothly. The longer handle of the breaker bar made moving the tensioner easier. Thanks for your help.

Glad I could help! It is definitely a 15 minute job - even if you have never done it before. It's one of those things that after you do it for the first time, you look at it and thing, "Wow, was that it? I pay someone to do that?" : )

Thanks - glad you found it informative! No coolant spray - I did some four wheeling in some red clay soupy type mud and it got all over EVERYTHING. Check out some of my other videos to see me slopping around in the mud and then cleaning the engine off (before and after).

I don't know about that, but I had to learn the hard way, and if I can save someone the time and energy and show them the right way to do it with as minimal tools as possible, It'll be worth it!

I'm doing it on a 96 Dakota...but I have watched a bunch and they are all the same...except for your video...your video is different. As the other videos show you how to put it on and that's it you show the wear and tare on the belt to show us what to look for. I like at the end you say "don't ever pay someone to do this its literally a 3 min job. That's very admorable....someone trying to do a bunch of strangers a favor by saving money. 5 stars and Sub'd and Shared. Thanks for the video.

It's hilarious when I hear people say "It's a 3 minute job" and then like you said in the video, you wrestled with it for 20 min. I've never been able to put a belt on in 3 min. either. Good video though.

3 min is to just put it on :D not removing the old one, pick up the tools and does not include all typical problems, like your wife asking you to cut the grass or your son complaining about the climate

@TimeKoder13 - All depends on the cost of the compressor - if you can score a deal on lightly used one and don't care about it lasting more than 50k miles, I would suggest do that. That 4.0 is a great little engine and can rack up some miles if you take care of her. If you aren't sure what size belt to get, you can always run a string around where the belt goes and measure it/then tell the parts guy. Anywho, keep me updated - I love all things Jeep (this is my third)!

@LerdoBurgerPimp - If I am not mistaken, that is the year they did bump up the HP. That kind of increase is definitely noticable. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just ponied up the extra couple grand for the Hemi. If the prices are the same on the 07 vs 08 4.7L, then I would definitely get the 08. The 230hp is OK, but if you are like me, you will greatly appreciate the extra 70 ponies. This is a 5600lb vehicle after all! Also check out the site wkjeeps.

Yeah, overall it was in really good shape, but I had 60k miles on it and it was the recommended time. If it wasn't still under warranty I'd let it go longer, but knowing my luck, that would have been it! : )

My belt just disappeared on my way home today. Mile from my house and lost power steering and the battery light came on as well the Trans temp started to raise. I’m guessing I gotta start with a new belt, gonna change the oil and filter, and check trans oil. If that was low would it cause belt to break off?

Hi. You mind providing me the tip on how to lift up the tensioner pulley to remove the belt?? I have been doing the same thing I see on your video and it does not work, the bolt in the center is actually getting to tide up. I rented the tension tool at AutoZone. I appreciated it!
@jbrunsonjr
@jbrunsonjr 3 жыл бұрын
You have to remember that the pulley will rotate around the mounting bolt that bolts to the block, a lot like the earth rotates around the sun. You aren't trying to rotate the pully, but the entire assembly, which pivots further down from the pulley. I really hope that makes sense - kind of like a picture it worth a thousand words. Wish I had gotten a better shot of it when I did it.

I've got a 4.7L 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited. Does anyone know how to remove/replace the PCV? This is the NEW location (not on the oil filler tube) ... it's on the drivers side and under a cable bundle and very hard to get to. I read that it has to be unscrewed ... is this true? Someone also mentioned a "large socket" if so what size? How do you do this job? Appreciate the info/help.
