Precisely the way I learnt it from my grandparents decades ago. I get very disturbed when people take enormous freedom with Sanskrit pronunciation. Thank you.

Thank you Nityanand ji! This is very informative. In ISKON where westerner's read these verses, its just killing the whole thing :) Its understandable but definitely not good to chant incorrectly all the time. Hoping they can take some lessons from you :)

*Its definitely best to learn proper pronunciation* , but its inappropriate to call the 'non-up-to-the-mark' pronunciation by non-Indian devotees as something 'killing it'. Even _vanaras_ can please Sri Hari. When in India there are people who are translating Honey Singh songs of mini skirt, ferrari, daru, ganja, item whatnot into Sanskrit and being applauded for it, the 'not-up-to-the-mark' Sanskrit pronunciation of Gita shlokas, by those who were originally from meat-eating families, must be acknowledged. 🙏

There's a very good book by Gita Press by the name "Saral Gita". It is a great book for beginners, especially for the ones who wants to learn how to chant the verses.

This was extremely informative and reaffirmative to what I learnt by trial and error 😅 I had tried chanting with sandhi vichcheda in order to get a better understanding but soon enough learnt to not do sandhi vichcheda from my pātha of Gajendramoksha Stotram and ShreeRamraksha Stotram as that used to break the rhythm quiet often. And regarding the difficulty of pronunciation, the good thing was that earlier when I had started chanting in my pre-teens i didn't have the buddhi to do sandhi vichcheda anyways, so all my practice was actually without any sandhi vichcheda. 😂

I followed Sadhak Sanjeevani by Swami Ramsukhdas ji (Gita press) word to word Hindi translation and commentary, and was able to pratice and learn the flow of shlokas. Currently I am practicing 3rd adhyaya.

@sumantkb2 жыл бұрын
Breaking is not always wrong. In Rig vedic Sandhya in the first Marjan the mantra (in Gayatri chanda) is chanted as 8 x3 - आपो॒ हि ष्ठा म॑यो॒भुवः॑ । ता न॑ ऊ॒र्जे द॑धातन । म॒हे रणा॑य॒ चक्ष॑से ॥ १०.००९.०१ while in the second marjan it is chanted in the sukta/Samhita form as ॥ आपो॒ हि ष्ठा म॑यो॒भुव॒स्ता न॑ ऊ॒र्जे द॑धातन । म॒हे रणा॑य॒ चक्ष॑से ॥ १०.००९.०१ i.e. 16+8. Similarly in Gayatri japa in Krishna Yajur veda the Savitr is chanted as 8+8+8 with the vyahritis in the begining.

Could you explain the meaning, and history of the word “SRIVATSA”. I know that’s it’s our family “gotram ” and means the one who is dear to Sri, Goddess Lakshmi. Another meaning is the mark on lord Vishnu’s chest where Sri Devi resides. It’s an infinite knot and auspicious symbol too. Could you outline the significance of the symbol, where it was stated and possibly the origins? Sir, I’m fascinated by our culture and the roots language has in our way of life, in the yester-year when these super languages were devised even more so. And hence, I love your work!❤️

First line of verse 2.24 is अच्छेद्योऽयमदाह्योऽयमक्लेद्योऽशोष्य … - but the recitation here is अच्छेद्योऽयमदाह्योऽयामक्लेद्योऽशोष्य which is incorrect. That is, a deergha has been introduced in the second part: instead of अयमक्लेद्यो… it sounds as आयमक्लेद्यो … which is incorrect.

यदि हलंत शब्द वाक्य के अंत में आए तो उसके अंतिम व्यंजन का उच्चार नहीं हो सकता. फिर उस शब्द को केवल लिखा ही जा सकता, पूरा बोला नहीं जा सकता, क्या यह सही है? उदाः "प्रचोदयात्" जो गायत्री मंत्र के अंत में आता है.

This whole thing feels a little too smug. I think that’s partly why so many get turned off by Sanskrit. Also the Sanskrit chanting can be more melodious, simple and sweet vs this traditional South Indian style of robotic recitation
